Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Carlyle Extended/Randy's Revenge
« on: May 09, 2014, 12:38:42 AM »
So Mike Babcock gets his team into the playoffs with a bunch of injuries, is a Jack Adams finalist and Detroit still isn't sold on giving him an extension yet.

The Vancouver Canucks miss the playoffs for the first time in God knows how many years and they fire their coach with 4 years left on his contract. Plus the GM.

The Toronto Maple Leafs not only miss the playoffs for the eighth time in the last nine years, they also set a record for most shots on goal allowed in a season and we give our coach an extension.

Mind-boggling doesn't even begin to describe it.

Just to be nitpicky, Mike Babcock isn't signing an extension because Mike Babcock has said he wants to go year to year.  Ken Holland wants to sign him to a multi-year extension.

Maybe I'm wrong but I haven't seen or read anything that said that Babcock refused an extension and wanted to go year to year. From what I've seen, he said that he'd be willing to go year to year if that's what Holland and the Red Wings wanted. He isn't just starting out as a coach and at this point in his career, an extension isn't mandatory to him. I doubt he'd refuse an extension though if it were offered to him.

All that I've seen Holland say is that the they were going to discuss things over the summer.

Maybe you've seen or heard something that I haven't?

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Rod Serling somewhere today, smoking a cigarette and waving at me.

Has there been a formal announcement about ticket prices going up yet or is that still coming? Randy ain't "working" for free, damn it.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

I think both the Leafs and Sharks lack the killer instinct to progress in the playoffs, or for the Leafs to even make the playoffs.  The Sharks reminded me of the Senators of the early 2000s in that they would dominate during the regular season then disappear during the playoffs.

Disappear in the playoffs?  One of those teams made it within 2 wins of the finals.  Only once did they finish 1st in their division, so not sure they would 'dominate' the regular season.  IIRC they often had brutal injuries in the playoffs too (Sundin comes to mind).  They were a very good team, a contender even, but hardly a sure thing and they hardly disappeared in the playoffs.

seems like you are confusing the sens in the early 2000's and the leafs in the early 2000's.   The leafs of that era played better in the playoffs then they did in the regular season whereas the sens played better in the regular season then the playoffs.

Seems like you're confusing me with 93Forever.

Seems like you're confusing yourself. 93Forever said that the Sharks reminded them of the Senators in the early 2000's, that were great all year but not so much in the playoffs. Especially against the Leafs.

Then you switched that around to the Leafs being a team that were great in the playoffs but didn't do so well in the standings.......back then.......

.................which had nothing to do with the original point.

I'm confused but I don't REALLY care, either.

God Bless Hockeyfan1

Hope you and the rest had a great Easter.

To any Atheists........................You know you were dead before you were born, right? You're already living life after death right now, with no explanation as to how it happened.

Happy EASTER TO ALL!!!
And living for God is even better!

No, pretending like life after death is impossible is the much better way to go. Go ATHEISTS?????

If you can't explain why you're conscious right now, how can you definitively say that you'll never be conscious again or that there isn't anything behind that consciousness? God or whatever it may be?

Where do you get the attitude to say that life dies when you were born out of death?

I don't know if there's words for this team.

I think that every one of the owners, along with Dave Nonis and his "tandem of brilliance," should all join Randy and the rest of the clown show at center ice, for the last home game.

That way, the fans could really show them how much they truly appreciate being jerked off, year after year.

I can't wait for next year when we pull within a goal and almost tie it........OHH BOY!!!

Rick, you're a brave soul.

Amazing how you put yourself out there to let others know that they aren't alone.

You matter more than you know.

Caught 'Gravity', pretty good all in all, and I don't even really like the Sandra that much.

Finally got to see it this week and if anyone is thinking of waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray or downloading it, do yourself a favour and see it in Imax 3d.

Fantastic movie. I wonder if all the aficionados about this movie would be as willing to investigate everything about the mafia, in order to make sure that a show like the Sopranos or a movie like the Godfather, were as authentic as could be.

An Estonian laugh was heard.............once.  :)

A couple of years ago when Kadri was playing for the Marlies, some old guy rang Andy Frost on AM 640 and wanted to know why the leafs wouldn't bring Nathan Cadbury up. Frost just dismissed him and went to the next caller but he'll always be Nathan Cadbury to me.

I'm pretty sure the caller called him Nigel Cadbury.

Was it Nigel? Yeah, you might be right. There's another guy here http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/archive/index.php/t-49627.html that heard Nathan though.

I'm positive it was Nigel. Here's a thread from the HF Boards (God help them all) that was started the day after.....

Either way, I remember laughing my head off when Frost finally figured out who the guy was talking about.

I'm getting really tired of Carlyle. There's absolutely no reason in hell why a team that lost against Pittsburgh the night before and had zero momentum coming into a road game in Toronto, whooped the shit out of us.

What's the excuse Randy? Our team just didn't execute your plan? I don't get what the hell our plan is, game in and game out. Is it to wait for a turnover in our end? Is that the whole strategy? Otherwise, I'm lost. I don't think that the team itself is all that clued in.

One thing I will say though, is that these kid millionaires should really move their asses more, no matter who's in charge. There's a lot of people who don't make as much money and tickets to watch that crap that they put out tonight, aren't free. I didn't go to the game but I can feel for someone who paid to have their kid watch their first Leaf game live tonight. Just awesome.

I haven't seen a damn thing this year where I can honestly say..............great coaching by Carlyle. The sooner this never-look-a-reporter-in-the-eye-while-they-ask-a-question pylon leaves the team, the better.

Wow, very sad news. I didn't always see eye to eye with Mr. T when it came to the Leafs but he was definitely someone I repected. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention CW and condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in peace, Mr. T.

What about when Gretzky was drafted...  Oh wait he wasn't and no one ever seemed to care.

And this is relevant how?

I think the point was that you don't have to draft a great centre.

I'm just guessing because otherwise, I have no idea what the hell that had to do with anything.

Well that's easy then. All the Leafs have to do is go back in time and join the WHA.

Nobody said life had to be hard.
