Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Tank Nation UNITE!!!

Hanafin seems like the better all round talent right now over Strome, but either of them would be great for us.  Kinda hoping Strome goes 3rd if we have 4th, as Hanafin/Reilly for a 1-2 D seems really sick.  We also have Nylander coming up at C, and he is a real blue-chip prospect.

Nylander's playing on the wing with the Marlies, I'm pretty sure.

Really?  That's interesting... he was drafted as a C though, no?

It's highly unlikely that the Leafs lose out the rest of the year so I'm figuring on 64 to 66 points by season end.  That is likely too many points to move into the top 3 but will leave them comfortably in 4th.

Strome/Marner is a fantastic consolation prize.

I am not convinced that Strome will be around at # 4. Maybe I am just nuts, but other than the # 1 spot I do not see any others as a lock to go at # 2, 3 etc.

I seriously think it would be great if the Leafs could more at least one of their core players at the draft to grab one more solid prospect in the say 7-15 portion of the draft. Questions:

1. Which Leaf player do you feel would be most likely to accomplish that in a trade?
2. What team might be willing to do that?
3. Who would you like the Leafs to select if they had a pick a little above or a little below 10th pick? Choose one for each, 7-10 range and 10-15 range.

Kessel, Rielly, maybe JVR

Ouch, I wouldn't move Rielly for a 7-10 in this year's draft, not a chance. Kessel would have to bring more than that. JVR as well, though I'd be more inclined to hang on to him. I am hoping Phaneuf could accomplish this, though a package my have to be part of a package.

Lupul + Bernier... and Leafs eat half of Lupul's contract, for a 7-10 pick.

Its all part of the Shannaplan.

On April 18th, we'll get to see if McDavid is part of the Shanaplan!

Good he is starting to do his job then. About darn time.

Actually Shanny has done a hell of a lot more then you think he has.

I saw a complete list of all moves done weather it be in scouting, coaching, management or player personnel  It was a bigger list then I actually gave him credit for and I'm a huge fan of the Shanaplan.

Any chance you could post this list for us?  Interested to see... thanks!

now we cannot draft him, the comparison with Bozak the Clown is scary

Ya definitely... if we win the lottery, we should pass on him.

This may just be one of those late surges for Edmonton when the games don't matter, but they've been looked really good lately that makes me think that they may finally put things together next year and break out.

They did just get Taylor Hall back, so that's likely part of why they've looked better. I still think they have too many holes to really break out - though, they could be like the Islanders and really just be a goalie away from looking like a decent team.

We don't need them to break out... just to win 2 games, cause you know we're tanking out the rest of the season...

We also play Buffalo and Columbus down the stretch and those are not going to be guaranteed losses.  It is possible that Game 82 against Montreal could be a meaningless game for them too.   The rest of their games are certainly heavy for playoff implications.

Edmonton sits 3 points back (4 really) has Colorado and what looks like San Jose playing meaningless games down the stretch and otherwise play good Western conference teams playing for their playoff lives.

Arizona sitting 5 points (6 really) has one game against Buffalo and two against San Jose so while they are horribly bad they too have a very outside chance of grabbing a handful of points down the stretch.

It's highly unlikely that the Leafs lose out the rest of the year so I'm figuring on 64 to 66 points by season end.  That is likely too many points to move into the top 3 but will leave them comfortably in 4th.

Ah yes... but Edmonton has two things we don't; momentum and heart.  They got Taylor Hall back and are on a couple game winning streak... the Leafs meanwhile, are so bad they will only win by fluke... even against Buffalo.  I was at the game Thursday night, I generally get out to several games per year, and I have never seen such an awful effort in my life as they have this year.  They are lifeless out there... just going about the motions.  Edmonton though... they at least try, and trying can get you points ;)  Either way it will be interesting to watch down the stretch... and either way, the Leafs are going to get a fantastic prospect as we're pretty well locked into a top 5 pick regardless.

It'll go McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, 1-2-3, regardless of what team is picking.

Strome and Marner likely to go next but it's not for certain.

I am not sure how you can be sure of that. In fact, I doubt that all teams would agree on who # 2, 3, 4 and 5 are.

Top 2 are an absolute lock... 3rd pick is a virtual lock unless a team picks for positional needs over pure talent, possible but unlikely. 4-5 are questionable for sure...

Leafs- 60 pts
Oilers-57 pts

6 games left each.

Oilers gained 7 pts on us fast... wasn't long ago it was 60 pts Leafs and 50 pts Oilers.

look at our own kids, acting like idiots into there 20's.  We were working or paying our own ways at that age.

as well... retirement age is increasing, as life expectancy does.  We are growing older and older, timeframes for everything are being stretched out.  Having a kid in your 30s is normal now, whereas 50 years ago there was something wrong with you if you wern't married with kids by 25.  It's a different world... wait until life expectancy breaks 90 or 100, it will change even further and more drastically.

woke up thinking about the time jason allison played for the leafs. the guy could score but was so .... lazy that the other team would get an odd man rush until he could get his ass back over the blue line for about 30 seconds. people used to point out how many points he contributed (60) but i would always point out that his plus minus was (-18). now i look at the +/- of bozak, kessel and jvr and my head explodes. i hate all 3 of them. please end it soon... ...

I think JVR has had his attitude poisoned by Kessel, Bozak and the rest of the sour core... he's a keeper though. Purge the rotten core and I think you will see a much different JVR.

It's a good thing one of our most talented players isn't in the lineup.

Who, McDavid?

Its scary that the Leafs aren't in last....

They are since they fired Carlyle...
