Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: John Tavares is a Maple Leaf

Leafs don’t name a captain this season. We win the Cup. Who will be pushed to pick it up first?

Gotta be the Patty Man.

Brian Papineau, with a full water bottle for Bettman.

Watching that press conference, it's amazing how many 'fingerprints' are involved with something like this happening. From Hunter picking Marner, to all the wrong decisions that helped us lose enough to get Matthews, to the Calder Cup win that Dubas had a huge hand in, to Shanahan bringing in Babcock, to Lamoriello bringing in Marleau. All of those factored into Tavares' decision.

Glad it worked it out but man, that's a lot of happenstance.

Ok Blue Jays Talk / Re: Roy Halladay dies in Plane Crash

Horrible news. They guy was one of most humble athletes I've ever seen with the amount of talent he had. We were lucky to have him as a Blue Jay.

I still the remember the full page ad he put in the Sun after he was traded to the Phillies, thanking Toronto fans. What a great guy.

Here's a link to the Sportsnet report about it, in case anyone didn't see it back then........

RIP Roy

I agree with what Guru said about Eckhart Tolle. I don't think anything has helped me as much as his books and videos.

The only thing I would suggest for anyone new to Eckhart or anyone who might be struggling with The Power Of Now book, is to start with his other book, A New Earth, first. The reason I say that is because The Power Of Now is set up as a question and answer type of thing so if you don't get what he's asking you to do to begin with, reading answers to questions about it, can be confusing for some. I personally know people that couldn't get through the Power Of Now but loved A New Earth, and finally were able to love the Power Of Now as much, when they read it second.

Anyway, I know the pit of despair is deep so good luck to anyone who's going through that right now. If you haven't tried Eckhart Tolle yet, check him out. It certainly won't hurt things.

I remember back when that all happened for the both of them, absolutely heartbreaking to see as a hockey fan, never mind living it.

May Dominic Moore have the best professional year of his life and welcome back!!!

Former Leafs: Ex-Files / Re: PHIL KESSEL WINS STANLEY CUP
« on: July 21, 2016, 05:42:52 PM »
I don't think I've rooted more for an ex-Leaf to win anything more than Kessel winning the cup. I can't believe we paid him to do that though.

Thank GOD Lou's here now.

Your point?

That all any of us are going by is what scouts are saying and what scouts seem to be saying is the exact opposite of "there is no debate". I'm happy and not at all defensive to admit I've watched no more of either guy than a few WJC games.

But then again, you're the one staying up to watch HZ Zurich games, not me.

Yeah, so I'm not seeing the point of the thread when you've said yourself that you'd pick Matthews. Either way, I now remember why this site is so damn boring now.

See you at the next draft or something.

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Re: So the debate begins: Matthews vs. Laine
« on: April 30, 2016, 11:44:48 PM »
There is no debate. Does anyone here actually think that Shanahan's smile on his face after we won the draft was because we might pick Laine? He would have already been smiling like that when we were guaranteed the #2 pick, if that were the case.

It's nice to see what some scouts are saying but I bet my bottom dollar that if any team in this league had the #1 overall pick in this year's draft, they'd all pick Matthews. Kind of like McDavid over Eichel.

There's nothing to debate about.

How much hockey have you watched either guy play?

Actually probably a bit more than you may have.

Your point?

Last year watching the draft, I wanted to throw a brick at my TV. This year, I actually rewound and watched it over again. I must have really grown as a person or something.

More than 30 years since we last picked first overall. This just might be a bloody bigger deal than Jermain Defoe coming to the FC.

The amazing thing about Prince is that the guy didn't just learn how to play a few instruments. He played all of them as if they were the only one he ever learned.

A phenomenal talent.

RIP and I can't wait to see what comes from the vault.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: New Logo and Uniform potentially in 2016/17
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:41:20 PM »
I don't like it all. Every time I see an old Leaf logo or a newer one that resembles the old days, it always reminds me of the Maple cookies the Girl Guides used to sell. Something like these.....

What a difference a fair home plate umpire makes.

Nice to see Tulowitzki finally kick some ass offensively.
