IMHO, Gardiner is playing that like he thinks the B's forward is going to turn off of the play(which happens often when PKing). Soderberg didn't. Gardiner looked like crap because of it. The other issue is that once he was beat, he decided to water ski behind the player he just lost the puck to. Personally, I would have preferred my defender hacked the guy. Take a penalty. Whatever. Nothing drives me crazier than a player that makes a mistake(yes they happen to the best of them) and doesn't do their best to try and make up for that mistake.

If I recall correctly, Gardiner *did* take a penalty on that play for holding - the referee had his arm up.  And Soderberg still scored.

Where was Marleau? That was the left point, so it was his guy...

I think we need to face the likelihood that we aren't winning a Cup before Tampa does.
Tampa was supposed to win last year and the Bruins shut them down quite easily if I remember. The Leafs dominated Tampa in their only meeting this year and have 1 less ROW this season, so let's not concede anything just yet. And for all of the talk about Tampa's D being so much better, we actually have the better GAA. Lots of hockey left to figure this out.

IIRC, I think Tampa beat the Bruins quite handily in the playoffs last year.  5 games or so?

Kapanen, HM: Nylander, who may have had his best game thus far (but no points to show for it :/)

Goat horns to Holl, who was brutal tonight.

I'll go Marner, HM Rielly again.

I'll go with Matthews, HM: Rielly for reasons echoed by those before me.

My question: if he retires and is therefore owed no salary, what value would the Leafs have to pay to trade him to a bottom-cap team? It can't very high; maybe a mid- to late-round pick?

Unfortunately a lot higher - for example, the Detroit Red Wings had to give up a 1st round pick (16th overall) to take on a retired Pavel Datsuyk.

edit: my bad - Detroit got a first round pick in return.  Basically moved down 4 spots in the first round in order for Phoenix to take it.

Realistically, his teammate Bouwmeester would be a massive upgrade on Hainsey.

Not so sure that's true actually with the season Bouwmeester is having right now.

Yeah. None of the pending UFAs on the trade market are all that appealing right now.

I had a look at the 2020 UFAs because the 2019 ones were so unappealing, and the one that stuck out to me was Pietrangelo.  It depends on a lot of factors - does St.Louis decide to blow it up and rebuild?  Are they willing to trade him away with another year left on his deal?  Are they willing to eat some of his salary and/or take salary back?

If so, if the Leafs are decidedly "going for it" I would probably probably pay a king's ransom for 2 playoffs runs with Pietrangelo.

This is actually a big win for Nylander then.

Oh snap, I thought the full was 6.9.  So Nylander is getting something closer to $7.25?

My guess is 6 years, $7mil per year.  Lower cap hit ($6.629mil) in years 2-6, though, as we've parsed over a few times. :P

The only problem with having Martina Ortiz-Luis as an anthem singer is that she makes all other anthem singers seem inadequate. :P

I'm surprised they went with Hitch over Quenville, but that's just me.

edit: sounds like a shoulder injury and 4 weeks, same as Matthews.  If it was out for several months, considering their D injuries, I'd wonder if the Bruins would make the playoffs.

Echo Andersen, Hyman.  Head rubs to Ennis, Marner, and even Johnsson had a really good game.
