Pittsburgh Tribune Review: Penguins land veteran goalie Vokoun from Capitals
Acquiring a veteran backup was a top priority for Penguins general manager Ray Shero. Management and coaches privately felt Fleury’s play suffered late last season because he was forced into a heavy workload, including several appearances on back-to-back days. Brent Johnson, the Penguins’ backup the last three seasons, was not available for much of the second half because of injury, and his dip in performance did not inspire confidence from the staff.

Gist I'm getting from the Pens media is that Vokoun will replace Johnson as backup.

Of course

Apparently, some guy on Twitter who broke both the Hodgson trade and the Booth trade before the media is saying Luongo to Toronto by the draft if not July 1, and is a done deal.

Probably not true but fun to think about nonetheless.

Usually, I'm all for taking the best talent, but we really need to cheat a little bit... Time to draft a forward

It's not like this organization has the patience to draft a young d-man and let him develop in the Marlies for a couple years.

Carlyle > Eakins ... I don't want to sit through another experiment

This move will define the Burke Era.

Hmm...I see a reversing pattern...we'll go 7-2-1 over this next ten. :D

Good eye, Avro... Giddy-up!

LOL I didn't even notice that.   Imagine that, out of nowhere in the middle of this mess the Leafs win 7 out of 10.  :D

Once this trade deadline passes, it wouldn't surprise me if the Leafs start to play a hell of a lot better. As if the pressure of playing in TO isn't enough for these young guys, when you add being in the thick of a playoff run (which would be their 1st appearance in 8 years) and the approaching deadline day. (which has become all encompassing in Toronto) it's no wonder they've gone on a tailspin the past week or two.

This pressure thing is blown way out of proportion here in Toronto, in my opinion.  It's the NHL, you are a pro, in most instances you get payed millions of dollars to play the sport.  Perform like it.

The Yankees, Red Sox, Lakers, Patriots etc... All huge pressure markets, all seem to make it to the games that count.

Just been meaning to get that off of my chest for a while now.  And the Leaf fans today are pretty forgiving, and the ACC is extremely quiet nowadays so its not like they are being distracted by boo's or anything of that sort.

Let the kids play... We all knew we'd be exactly in this position in the pre season, maybe reaching as high as 7th but likely 8th 9th or 10th... Its going to be a dog fight, and that's what we have here now.

A Rick Nash winter classic jersey would be super sweet.

The Score confirming Leafs and the Wings? Count me in.

They are saying Reimer doubtful as of this morning... God damnit.... The team just doesnt play as well for Gus.. Gus is probable reports are saying

God damnit I hate Mike Komisarek.

I haven't noticed frattin doing much in his 3 games.  When Kadri is healed I think we send frattin down and put kadri in his spot.

He's been pretty good when you watch him closely, in my opinion at least.  Competition for roster spots is a good problem to have, all good teams have it.

If they are going to keep Komisarek in, and they will for financial reasons, I would not mind them sending both Aulie and Gardiner down.

Gunnar Phaneuf
Liles Schenn
Franson Komisarek

Lashoff can spell Komi or Franson or possibly even Gunnar at various times.

I think Gunnar has good enough two-way play in order for us to at least try him with Phaneuf.  Last year, I thought Kabby-Schenn was our best defensive pairing in both directions, so I'd like to try to recapture that with Liles-Schenn.

Have Gardiner and Aulie play as a tandem for 26+ minutes each in the AHL.  We'll be very pleased with this decision once the mid-season injuries role in.  It is pretty common that 9-10 defenders get used on a team during the year due to injuries isn't it?  I would wait for at least January before pursuing any trade.  The return on the trade should be much higher from January through the trade deadline than now, unless some team encounters a rash of early injuries and are willing to give us a great return.

This makes a lot of sense.  A heckuva lot has to go right for this squad to make the playoffs, and I for one am ready for another season on the outside if it means developing a good young defense corps.

You have the patience of a saint.

I would love for the Rangers to be a complete and utter flop this year.   Some teams have to flop if the Leafs have any hope of making the playoffs.

They are a Lundqvist injury away from being just that, I think.

I don't think he gets hurt though, if anything it'll be Gaborik.

No one is giving up on him, I think the word here is impatience.

He's the quickest solution we have to acquiring immediate top 6 help; since he hasn't made any major contributions to the big club, the average Leaf fan will always include him in trade proposals due to a lack of an emotional connection to him.

Toronto isnt used to developing drafted talent, this shouldnt come as a shock to anybody. Nazem is here to stay, unless he was to be packaged for a guy like Mike Richards (which makes more sense than moving him for another unproven talent like Turris).

Let him get a couple 3 point games this season and see how quickly these trade proposals stop, and he becomes labelled as the next coming.  It's just the way Toronto fans are.  We're on the right track, lets keep it that way.

Kadri > Turris, no thanks.

Just get it done already, I really don't see what the holdup could be.  Burke is offering less than what the Schenn camp is asking?

Also, why haven't teams placed an offer sheet for him?
