Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Marleau being shopped around

Oh baby!!

It's funny how all Leafs trade rumours are centered around bad Lamiorello contracts. I get that Zaitsev asked for a trade but still, the 2 deals we absolutely hate are Marleau and Zaitsev and now both are trade rumors.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Is it panic time yet?
« on: January 19, 2019, 09:49:35 AM »
A month ago I wouldn't have believed the Leafs could possibly miss the playoffs this season. We have John Tavares!  We have Auston Matthews, we have Mitch Marner!

Well, here we are, a Habs win tonight and Leafs are in a wildcard spot.  I understand Leafs have 3 games in hand over the Habs after tonight, but the recent stretch of play doesn't fill me with confidence that they'll win those games in hand.

I understand the Leafs are generally a young team, and there's still growing pains to an extent, but this team is REALLY under performing right now.  If, and I say IF the Leafs were to miss the playoffs this season, does the axe fall on Babcock?  Dubas has only been on the job less than a season, so it's not as if he's made wholesale changes to the roster (other than adding one of the top centermen in the league), so the blame doesn't fall on him.  Is Babcock doing enough to get these guys ready to play?  Are his systems up to date an in tune with the skills he has on the roster?

Will this thread look ridiculous in a month's time if the Leafs go on a run and re-establish 2nd in the conference by a fair margin?  All good questions.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Leafs 2018/2019 Schedule in 10 game chunks

While he wait for the Tavares news and the free agent non-frenzy of July 1st, I took the liberty of starting up the chunk thread.  It's never too early to start thinking in chunks!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Stanley Cup Wins
« on: June 26, 2017, 03:46:45 PM »
Been thinking, I've waited my entire life to see the Leafs win a Stanley Cup.  Would I be happy if I got to see the team win only 1?  I've waited over 40 years (since I was a kid).  What say you?

Right hand shot veteran d.  Should the Leafs take a look?

One of the hottest European free agents could find an NHL home sometime soon.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are frontrunners to land Calle Rosen, a 23-year-old Swedish defenceman, The Athletic has learned.

Rosen, who is 6-foot and 180 pounds, has spent his entire career in Sweden. He’s played for the Vaxjo Lakers in the SHL the past two seasons and has emerged as one of the league’s premier defencemen. He had six goals, 13 assists and 18:44 of ice time in 41 games this season.

In terms of Swedish talent, hopefully he's somewhere between Erik Karlsson and Per Gustafsson.

Non-Hockey Chatter / Dementia and loved ones
« on: December 21, 2016, 09:35:41 AM »
Hey all,

usually I don't post stuff like this but just going through alot these days.  If I seem grumpy or pissed off in other threads know that there's a reason why.

Our mother is in the late stages of dementia.  She's 86, has lived a long and happy life, gotten to see 5 granddaughters born, and now she's suffering greatly.  We've had to make the difficult decision of placing her into long term care.  Up to this September she had been living on her own, independently in the same house we all grew up in since 1960.  Her spiral into sickness was so sudden it took us all by shock.   The signs for dementia were there, forgetfulness at times, getting lost in the neighbourhood while shopping, but we didn't see it for what it was, or chose not to see it.  From September until now she's lost the ability to walk, speak and now even doesn't recognize us most of the time.  It's been heart wrenching to go through this, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.  As Christmas approaches it just hits home and more that I wanted at least one last Christmas with my mom, and now that's not going to happen, or at least not in the way we had hoped.  For anyone who's had to deal with this illness in their own families, I feel for you and wish you the best.   Thanks for reading.
