Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: leafs meetup groups??
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:42:43 AM »
ScottishGuyinTO, are you signed up for meetup.com? It's a free website that has tonnes of groups you can join, sometimes for like $5, but if you can't find a group, you can always start one. There is a group called British Ex-pats, just to give you an idea of what it's about. There is also a group there for your Irish friends. I heard this site has been gold for new immigrants. Maybe you could give the Leafs night out at the pub a whirl. Especially when you ask a bartender or owner who is looking for more revenue, if you could use their establishment for a group setting. You could be doing them a favour and they may pay you back in spades in other ways. Just a suggestion. Good Luck!

It would certainly be interesting to see the population of Southern Ontario and to which direction they would lean in terms of who they will support. Any guesses on where the second team would be based? Markham? Since that was the rumour of the day back about a year ago or so..or maybe play out of the ACC until a new arena is built...

I am not comfortable with a team in Vegas. Seattle I have no issue with or with Quebec getting the Nordiques back. Of course this is just some writers big story, so it can all be pish posh, but I tend to believe Tony Gallagher.

As for watering down the league, it's been happening for decades, what with the influx of US College players, so why worry now?

Haven't seen it mentioned, but with RSN having full control of content, is Cherry on a tighter leash?

My guess is if he doesn't decide to "retire" they will keep him around but in a greatly reduced role. Maybe one short segment before the game vs. the whole 1st intermission soapbox thing.  More of almost a symbolic role than what he's been doing today.

I would have to say he will be on a short lease, ratings or not. We are talking about a network that fired Damian Goddard for making outrageous statements. Who's to say that Cherry won't offend someone along the way, and when he does, and they decide he can keep his job, there will those calling Rogers hypocrites.

Not surprised. The only drawback are the number of teams they have probably saved along the years in the name of Garys NHL

Non-Hockey Chatter / Re: Rob Ford has been removed as mayor

Amazing debate over $3100..guy gets tossed for breaking the rules.

I wonder what would they say if he threw away about $700 million just to move a power plant and save 2 seats in an election?

Since Ford is a hard working mayor, who does exactly what he says he will do, we can't have that! At the end of the day, living in Mississauga, I don't care for Ford either way, but, I just laugh when I see the comments, and not just here about how it was okay to prorogue parliament since it was okay that Harper did it twice.

Close to a billion taxpayers dollars were wasted. I am shocked their has been no RCMP inquiry into the misuse of these funds. Sounds clearly like fraud to me.

But apparently the last offer by the NHL,some three weeks ago, was the last offer the players would get...

I know it's a negotiation ploy but c'mon man!  ???

Well, this isn't another proposal - it's a tweak to their most recent proposal.
Fair enough. I always thought final meant final. In The World According to Gary, I guess not.

-The NYC marathon has been cancelled. This follows international outrage over the earlier plans to race on Sunday. Sorry Nick Kypreos!

Doesn't Nick have a lower body injury? Maybe this could actually benefit him unless the race is cancelled for a calendar year..If it's just moved to later this winter, then it maybe, I dunno, for lack of a better term," dumb luck" for Nick Kypreos.

It maybe possible he has lined up another job already.

I can't make out who he is blaming, either Wilson/Carlyle, or the 10 headed management beast running the show..

The 4 page pullout in the Sun today made him out to being Brutus stabbing Burke in the back..

Media won't stop covering the lockout as long as their are readers/viewers who want an update on the talks.

So, in essence, it's our fault for paying attention.

NHL Players are going to Europe, while the NHL is hinting at hiring scab players.

All gamesmanship.
