Meh, nothing interesting at all to me about this series. Should be a cakewalk for the Caps.

Hmm.   ‘Canes can take down Ovie & co.?  In a dream maybe, but in reality...nyet.

Capitals in 5.  Washington being the defending SC Champions couldn’t possibly lose this one.  No.

Caps in 7. Carolina has played well all season, but couldn’t score early in the season. They’re a much tougher opponent than they’re being given credit for.

Caps in 7. My heart wants me to pick Carolina here, especially since I'm not even that high on Washington this season, but I think their goaltending comes back down to earth.

I suspect no teams bothered to really game plan for Carolina (or Montreal, or New York) this season. Washington is picking them apart so far.

Holtby trying to sell the refs on his figure skating skills a goaltender interference. Wallmark tips in a changeup as a result of this Jonathan Quick impression.

That was not a hit to the head....

Also how was that stick kick legal? That's pretty dangerous if he catches the gloves.

It would have gotten him a gold medal.  :D

Ten years in the making!

Canes win 5-0.  Capitals lead 2 games to 1.

I feel bad for Svechnikov. I think when you can get their best player off the ice for 5 minutes by getting him to fight, you do it but it sure turned ugly when he got knocked out. At 19 years old and 40lbs lighter then Ovie the fight hardly seemed fair. Hope he's okay and we see him back soon.

I would be perfectly ok not seeing another hockey fight.

OV's a beast. Not good seeing a kid get knocked out but that's the chance you take when you drop the gloves.

How does Ovechkin not get a hearing there for punching a player on the way down and essentially driving his head into the ice?

Disagree, that's a reach. He didn't drive his head into the ice. The momentum of the kid going down and OV having a hold on his jersey caused that. OV did nothing wrong here. Unfortunate the kid got hurt.

I'm with Guilt Trip on this one. Looks to me like he simply fell on top of him. I'm guessing the commentator here has never been in a fight. He most certainly did not intentionally ram his head into the ice.

Btw, this is a great exhibit of how stupid it is to allow fighting in hockey.

It is time to get rid of it but in order to do that, the refs need to start calling every glove in the face and all that after whistle garbage.

Looked to me like Ovie let up on that last punch as the guy was going down, but in any case he certainly didn't ram the
guy's head into the ice.

Thank goodness Svechnikov had his helmet still on when he landed on the ice.  If he hadn't... (*shudders*)

I don't mean he literally drove his head into the ice. Bad wording on my part. I meant that Ovechkin has plenty of time to hold up on that last punch, the kid was dropping. Ovechkin's job in that case in my opinion is to hold onto him to try and prevent the head slam.

All that aside, it is pretty stupid that fighting is allowed. Joe Thornton gets suspended for a shoulder to the head, but 9 or 10 punches to the face is a 5 minute, then you go free again.

Caps won this one 6-0.  Ovie with a blaster in typical Ovie fashion.

Washington was in full gear from the get go.  Poor Carolina.

wow, what a d*** move by Ovechkin... hard deliberate slash with just over a minute to go. Knows he's gonna get a penalty and does a mock applause at the ref. Dumbass deserves to be suspended for that. And wouldn't that look good if they ended up losing game 7 because their captain can't control his temper.

3/4 wildcard teams have advanced.  If Carolina wins, that would make it 4/4.

That’s the sad part. We get by Boston who knows. Definitely would be a favourite.

You don't know that. CBJ finished 2 points behind the Leafs and made some huge moves at the deadline. I hope they win it all but at this point I really don't care who wins.

You know who would be way easier than Tampa Bay?

That team who beat them in 4 straight.

Based on regular season, I'd agree, but this is the playoffs and based on them, I'd rather play T Bay. No one knows how it would have worked out for the Leafs so there's no use speculating.
