Clearly this team needs Cliff Fletcher back.

Nothing a Jeff finger or Lee Stempniak wouldn’t fix.

Agreed, Robertson and Liljegren for Stempniak?

Yep unless the Nats can pull off a miracle that's that. Good run, a very fun season at times but it could've been so much more and the Jays have no one to blame but themselves.

There are obviously many games to look back on and wonder what if, but for me the one that hurt the most was the one versus Detroit (I believe), a month or more ago. The one where Semien botched a routine grounder that would've sealed the win, and the Jays lost in extras.

Either way, oh well.

Were there not other options for a minor league goaltending coach?

It's definitely a big price tag, but the key for me is that Berrios is signed through 2022. So this already strengthens the rotation from day 1 of next season and worst case some assets are recouped at next year's deadline.

I don't think that a non-rental pitcher of Berrios' calibre could be acquired for anything significantly cheaper.

From what I've been reading the Jays are still deep down the middle as well.

Even if blowing up the core isn't feasible (e.g. trading Marner) do nothing to augment them like this season.

Stockpile picks and prospects, give as many opportunities (and extended ones at that) to youth as possible. Trade expiring contracts at the deadline when possible.

This is likely the last few minutes of Thornton's career, since the Leafs shouldn't re-sign him and I can't imagine any other team wanting him either.

9
The Leafs are on the whole a much slower team than Montreal (or at least looked it this series). Both in terms of footspeed and puck movement. Something to be addressed in the offseason.

If the Leafs do indeed lose the series, how can one not ask questions about the core? And would it really be reactionary or reckless to explore major changes?

Muzzin is likely out for game 7? If so...that is not good, not good at all.

Mikheyev for the OT winner.

Them coming back to tie it gives me a better feeling for G7 if it's necessary.  Second game in a row where they really haven't played well and it's still a tossup.

They still have to play better though.
I do think Matthews isn't 100%.

Agreed - just doesn't seem quite right, not as explosive with movement or shot

Okay I have the perfect play to end this. Bogo pinches down low, cycles back to Galchenyuk covering the point, who fires a cross ice pass to a wide open... why are you all looking at me like that?
