I know we should panic and feast on our brains, but for some perspective, we are still 1st in the division and in a 5-way tie for 2nd in the league; Matthews looks like he's going to win the Richard trophy and Marner has broken the record for the most points by a Maple Leafs player in their 1st five seasons.

But But But, the team that's gone 9-2-2 in their last 13 games just isn't good enough! They need to be tougher! They're weak mentally and physically! This team just isn't he same team as the first half of the season.  :o

While last night was a frustrating game to watch we should also remember that we were missing 3 forwards who could probably form a top line better than what a lot of other teams currently have.

Yeah. Last night is hardly an indication of what the team is capable of when marginally more healthy than they are now.

Maybe it's just me but I wasn't all that wowed by Robertson.  I think there is definitely a player there but I think he still hasn't figured out how to not try and do too much.  I don't see him ready to knock other guys out of the lineup this year.

Agreed, he would do well to be on a lesser team like Detroit and get a regular spot.

Wasn't this basically the exact same play that happened to Hyman the other way in the Calgary game? Whatever.

His speed and tenacity were pretty obvious, as was the fact that he has reasonable offensive instincts. Definitely needs some more refinement before he's a full-time NHLer, though. Hopefully, a good chunk of time next season with the Marlies will help there.

He has NHL skills but he's still trying to play an OHL game. I've noticed a few instances of him getting a shot off from too far out/with no traffic in front of the net and in the OHL those would usually go in for him but not against NHL goalies. And I'm pretty sure last night he got fed passes to the slot from the boards twice but it took him too long to accept/handle the pass and by the time he got it the defence was on him and prevented him from scoring. Again in the OHL the defence probably doesn't get on him as quick and he's able to score. 14 AHL games haven't been enough to break out of those habits.

Yup. The tools are there. Just a matter of training him in the right way to use them at the professional level.

Not sure about that but that was a pretty good hack administered by Hyman there.

Guilt Trip

As for Robertson. He was fine last night. Nice pass to Spezza for the JT goal. Works hard, made some nifty moves. Will take time but I'd like to see him get a shot higher up.

His brother apparently is pretty good though.

Which is why I'd like to see him getting first line minutes in AHL as opposed to 4th line minutes in Toronto.

I am just surprised that only the Leafs lost last night.  I guess I should be panicking.  I mean it was a team directly below them in the standings.  It should not have happened.

Too bad that Chicago fighting for the playoffs didn't lose to bottom feeder Detroit or that NYI going for 1st in the East didn't lose or better yet that 1st Place team in the East Washington didn't lose 5-2 to the joke of a team Buffalo who were without Eric Staal, Hall, Eichel,  etc....

...oh wait...

Those teams are also soft, weaklings.
