Maybe not, but that's why I propose trying it now to see if it might work. If he's on a line with two grinder types (Tavares and Foligno) it might open up room for him to make good use of his skillset.

When does/did Robertson burn the slide year off his contract?  10 games this year?

NVM, I just found that it has been pro-rated this year to 7 games and Robertson has played in 5 already meaning he has 2 left

Does that mean he is allowed to play 7 and when he plays in that 8th game, he burns the year?

I  know all this stuff matters to some degree, but if the Leafs consider this a "go for it" year, I don't think they can worry too much about that. If Robertson makes the team better (which I think is yet to be determined), they should just play him in a meaningful role. Not 5 minutes a night on the 4th line.

I was hoping for these lines to start the playoffs:

Nylander - Matthews - Marner
Foligno - Tavares - Hyman

I hope Hyman is ok.

I don't think there's enough finish on the Tavares line.

Foligno-Tavares-Robertson, that's what I'd experiment with if Hyman is going to miss games.

I'm hopeful on Robertson for the future, but I don't think he's nearly effective enough to be given those minutes right now.

Kind of looked like he got hit above the knee (I'm just going from memory, haven't looked at the video recently). So it might just be a deep bruise, though of course even those can be serious injuries.

One positive, maybe, is that the Leafs are getting a lot of experience playing close games, which might help in the playoffs where those kinds of close/tight games are common. Of course, if we're always playing with the lesser goalie that will be a problem. A functioning PP would be a big help even though PP opportunities are less frequent in the playoffs.

Losing Hyman would be a big deal, though Foligno should help offset that loss. I would give Robertson more games in the top 6 to see if he can calm down a bit and stop rushing his shot. Think he is close to being a worthwhile contributor. He will have to be very careful around the boards as he tends to put himself in vulnerable positions. Almost got killed a couple of times last night.

You never know whether you're getting good or bad Freddie. I'd take my chances with him if he's actually healthy, though.

I'd say Rittich should get the next game. Campbell is in a funk.

Leafs really need to come out on a mission Tuesday. They need a statement game. Well, I guess you could consider this to be a (bad) statement game of sorts.

This one is on the goalies...Holtby was much better than Campbell. That said...bad loss, should never have been close.

That was some textbook defensive coverage in front of the net. Geez.

I'm not seeing what all the love for Robertson is.

That set up to Simmonds was pretty legit

That was a high end play for sure.

I think Robertson is rushing things at times, especially his shot. And he's fallen in the corners a number of times while trying to spin/pivot. Once he slows things down he should be fine.

Really? The guy oozes skill all over the place. He's quick, tenacious, passes well, has the great shot. Possibly not strong enough and not used to his linemates but man...it's obvious the guy has tons of talent.

That 4th line is potentially brutal but I like the idea of giving Robertson a shot in the top 6. Now whether it's what we get tomorrow, guess time will tell.

Maybe it’s just me but I wasn’t all that wowed by Robertson.  I think there is definitely a player there but I think he still hasn’t figured out how to not try and do too much.  I don’t see him ready to knock other guys out of the lineup this year.

Which is why I'd like to see him getting first line minutes in AHL as opposed to 4th line minutes in Toronto.

Agreed and once everyone is healthy and Foligno arrives, that's where he'll probably be - assuming there is an AHL season to return to.

I didn't see most of last night's game but I have seen flashes of high-level talent from Robertson. He's made a few really shifty/clever moves, made a nice pass on the PP (I don't remember which game), is quick and tenacious. I don't think he knows his linemates very well so he seems to be all over the place, maybe trying to do too much at times. But, really hard to get a good read based on his usage so far.

I would like to see him get 1 game with substantial first or second line minutes to see how he meshes with better linemates but Keefe doesn't seem to be interested in that. Especially if Matthews and Nylander are still out for the next game - give him the opportunity. Put him on PP1, he's a definite shot threat (I remember that amazing goal off the faceoff in the blue/white game). It's not like the PP can get much worse at this point.

I like how we attack the zone with better speed 5on5.  We also don’t do drop passes
Get Rielly off it and it'll improve...let Willy carry it.
I know we talked about this a lot in one of the other game threads. I just don't see what benefit Rielly brings on the PP right now. No shot, too slow/safe with his passes, not good defensively. When everyone is healthy Nylander should replace him.

I think we'd better start re-focusing on hoping Andersen comes back.
Better also hope he comes back as "good Freddie" and not "bad Freddie."

This was another game where I’m just left meh with both Thornton and Simmonds.  Robertson was not really noticeable but he was playing with a non-NHL player and had minimal minutes.  Hard to show anything when you don’t get an opportunity
Thornton was fine and a contributor to the first goal. Simmonds looks really off. Robertson looks decent but needs to get moved up the lineup. Maybe when Willy comes back he goes with them and Hyman to the third line. We'll see but I imagine Keefe will be juggling the lines with all the extras.
When Willy is back and Foligno arrives I doubt Robertson will be in the lineup.
I'm not talking then, I'm talking next game. Foligno isn't here for at least 3 games.
Fair enough...I have seen no evidence that Robertson will be given a serious opportunity higher in the lineup if everyone is healthy and available. He'll probably sit out once Willy is back, whether Foligno is here or not.
