CHL & NCAA Hockey / When Minor hockey promotions go wrong
« on: April 25, 2013, 01:57:37 PM »
a different "CHL" but wasn't sure where else to post this....

On Sunday, an Arizona minor league hockey team's owner, GM, captain, and marketing director perched themselves atop a scissor lift. They would not come down, they declared, until the team sold 300 season tickets. It has been 94 hours. The team has not sold 300 season tickets. They are still up there. Please send help.

General NHL News & Views / 2013 NHL Draft Thread
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:54:13 AM »
Thought I would get this rolling since the discussion started a little bit in other threads.

Other than Seth Jones likely stealing the show, this is the year of the centre... many options up the middle which of course for the Leafs is a good thing.

Some resources:

ISS rankings:

TSN: McKenzie is presenting his updated rankings tomorrow.
TSN: Craig Button's list: (usually has some wacko picks.. hence the reason he's in the media now)

MyNHLDraft: Not the most thorough of resources but not a bad quick reference:

Names I am watching (other than the obvious McKinnon & Jones):

Sean Monahan - somewhat quietly sneaking up on the top of the pack as a well rounded, well sized centre.. the kind you might just be able to call a legit #1 at some point.  Brampton kid too.  Also now in his 3rd OHL year which means he's got more experience than most, and could be NHL ready sooner.  This will get you excited about him:

Alexander Barkov - Has it all, except speed.

more later....

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Leafs Prospects Scouting Reports
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:38:18 AM »
Some scouting reports on Maple Leafs prospects I am working on over at Maple Leafs Hot Stove (shared per Rick's request). Some of  you may or may not know I was a partner at McKeen's for several years and have been researching/scouting/writing about prospects since 2000 (with some long breaks in between thanks to life getting in the way).

Check em out:

Down the right hand side. 2-3 new ones going up per week. Mostly CHL/AHL focused so far.  Hope to have them all reviewed by December if I can get enough video of the Euro players.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Leafs hire Rick St. Croix
« on: September 18, 2012, 06:44:03 PM »
According to Dreger, St. Croix has been hired as the new goalie coach to replace Allaire.

Some info here:

didn't realize he coached Corey Schnider, among others.  Good omen?

Non-Hockey Chatter / Don Cherry Plays piano?
« on: December 23, 2011, 06:39:50 PM »

See this guy whose friends held on to save him from falling 6 metres after trying to catch a ball during the home run derby last night?

I think its a little sad this guy seems to make light of being incredibly stupid and dangerous, a day after the funeral for the dad who died after trying to catch a lob from Josh Hamilton.  That guy was a pure accident - a tall guy leaning over a short rail - this guy is a big fat dude standing on the ledge.

I just find his whole attitude about it really kind of disrespectful out of what had only happened a few days before.
