Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: 2021-22 Training Camp Thread

Just a word of caution: as much as we enjoy watching these guys do hockey, we are bound to be disappointed when some of them turn out to be less enlightened than we wonderful people are.  I predict some falling off of pedestals for pretty much every team as we go along this season.  Maybe it's Willy here, maybe it'll be someone else.

Flushing that dude they brought in to coach goalie for the Marlies is a minor example.

I will say though with a 98% fully vaccinated rate among all NHLers the league and players have done a pretty great job in that regard, a handful of dumb-dumbs aside.

If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but I'm a little skeptical this couldn't have been done much earlier if he really wanted to. Still, he's saying/doing the right things now so at least that's something.

I don't know, seems kind of bad.

Boy I'd sure love to see his teammate Josh Archibald try to explain to Stalock why Covid is actually a plandemic.

Truly the perfect excuse to just run Tavares-Marner and Nylander at C reps.

Yeah I'm curious to see how they really handle his absence during camp, or at least the earlier portions of it. It'll be very tough to get a feel for who the best candidate for the LW spot is going to be without him.

1. I know there’s a craving for Jack Eichel information. One longtime executive said this week “this is the most complicated situation I’ve seen” during his professional existence. (He’s not involved, but, obviously, everyone’s talking about it.) This is what I’m expecting over the next few days: Eichel comes to camp, but does not pass his physical and is not cleared to play. I also think there’s a very good chance Buffalo removes his captaincy. What I don’t know is if they’ve settled the medical path.

I heard there were some trade talks a couple of weeks ago, but I think people want to see what the doctors say. As you can expect, there is a ton of frustration. Eichel was hoping to be recovered from disc surgery by now, and, another player said not to underestimate what playing in the Olympics would mean to him. But the Sabres are unhappy too, with the promise of the “Eichel era” completely dissipated and hard feelings about how things fell apart. Really a shame for everyone involved.

I'm genuinely stunned how the PA hasn't done more for Eichel here. The Sabres are basically refusing to let him get medical treatment because he requested a trade.

5 years, $45mil after just 55 games in the NHL. Times are changing.

No mention of Steeves there?

Injured first game, didn't play again. So probably just not much to say there.

"Zach's personal choices are dangerous and reckless and we don't want that type of person near our NHL team. Instead he'll mentor our prospects."

The streams that get posted for the Leafs in the gdt, would there be a Jay's equivalent?

Those sites that get linked there have MLB streams as well on their pages.

What do we think of this?

Looks like he's 29?  Small: 5'9", 163lbs.  In 66 games scored 13-31-44 with a -15 for NJ in 19-20.

I give Gusev a lot of credit for this move. After a mediocre covid season and nobody signing him to a contract a month and a half into free agency I don't think anybody would have blamed him for just heading back home and signing a multi-million dollar deal with a KHL deal. I'll be rooting for him, even if he can't crack this group I hope this earns him a spot somewhere.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Rielly

Anyone else thing the rumors of the Leafs knocking on the Subban door have anything to do with the Leafs looking at Moving Rielly?  If his asking price is too much, would it make sense to deal him and acquire salary-retained Subban?

That rumour originated from someone with less insider-cred than Eklund, so yeah don't pay any attention to it.
