Update: Yes, GPU's are still basically impossible to get ATM (unless you want to spend double). I tried to preorder from Canada computers and they are no longer accepting pre-orders as they are still trying to fill orders from September.... Basically told me good luck finding a card. Nvidia CFO said a couple weeks ago it's going to be rough for a while....

Sooooo.... I got lucky. Dell had an online sale on Alienware PC's on Feb 4th (not my first choice, I wanted to build my own, but it is what it is), I got $800 off the MSRP price, then during checkout, the Honey app found me another $100 coupon code...

My new system arrived today  :D:

Alienware Aurora R11
i7-10700k
RTX 3080
16GB Dual Channel HyperX Fury @ 3200mhz RAM
1TB NMVe SSD
1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD
Alienware liquid CPU cooling
1000w ATX Modular power supply
Killer Wifi & 5.1 Bluetooth

Can't wait to boot up this beast tonight and play some Warzone!!!

What did that end up being? $2800+ tax or so?

It even seems that the last generation of cards are hard to come by right now too so I'm glad I was able to at least get what I did when I did.

Yes, you were almost spot on. $2779 + tax.
Almost any GPU is impossible right now. They are all over MSRP if you can find one. The custom PC I was going to build would have had almost all the same parts (minus the case, mobo and PSU, I would have chosen something else), for about the same price. I got the Alienware just to get the 3080 RTX.

For sure, that will be a huge upgrade.
I'm currently running an i5 7600k with a geforce 1070gtx. Its about 4 years old and only giving me about 90fps~ in warzone.  Desperately need an upgrade so I can get more dubs. But finding a 30 series geforce GPU is impossible right now.
Frustrating!

I went pretty high end on the processor, I got a Ryzen 9 3900X and a 2TB SSD.

Would you get a good enough bump in performance from the just GPU upgrade, or do you need to do more?

That's a good CPU you got, will perform well.
If I only upgraded my GPU I think I would then get bottlenecked by my CPU. Problem is even if I went that route I still can't because they are sold out.
I need an entire new system. Covid threw a wrench into new PC builds for a lot of people.

I just put an order in for parts to build a PC. It started off because I needed somethng to use for the masters degree I'm starting in May. It ended up being a pretty solid gaming computer.

What GPU? Because everything is sold out everywhere.

Radeon RX 5700 XT

Even the some of the more high ones were available, I don't think I would have spent much more than I did on the graphics card.

Oh. That's a mid range last gen card.
The next gen AMD are the 6800 series.
I'm looking for a Geforce 3080, but I can't find them anywhere.

Yeah, I hear those are hard to come by and more than I wanted to spend even if they were in stock everywhere. My old computer was pretty old, I'm coming from a Radeon R9 280X so it's a pretty significant upgrade.

Is 4 sticks enough?

Looks like 8 to me.  :)

There is no long term for a GM of a pro sports franchise.

David Poile would like to speak with you. :)

Just glad we didn't go down that road with Hunter.
Definitely. I hope Dubas can shut everyone up.
I have a feeling this will be Dubas last draft in Toronto.

What a clever name, get that from Simmons? Cox? Someone from a TSN article comment section?

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Your personal all-time Leafs team
« on: March 29, 2020, 09:22:29 PM »

People tend to talk about Keon like he was the Patrice Bergeron of his day so points would only be an aspect of the equation.

For my money Sundin's the guy but you can't forget the way winning cups distorts these things.

Does it distort things or does it place things in the correct perspective? The top center on 4 Stanley Cup teams is significantly more than anything Sundin, Gilmour or Sittler ever did.

You're never going to have the correct perspective when Keon won cups in a 6-team league and the others played in a league with 16-30 teams.

Keon beat the best of his time. No leaf since can say the same.

Eddie Shack also beat the best of his time.  Was Shack better than Sundin and Gilmour?

Shack was a 3rd line winger. The only way Shack beat The best of his time was with an elbow to the face. Keon was Leafs #1 center and arguably the best forward in all 4 championships. Only Beliveau achieved what Keon achieved in that era. Mikita, Ullman, Delvecchio, and later Esposito, were guys who routinely out scored Keon but none won 4 cups.

I see.  So then I presume that you would surely be comfortable with the assertion that, say, Sundin's Leafs would have won multiple Stanley Cups if Mats Sundin had been replaced by Dave Keon?

Yes. And if Sundin replaced Keon in the early sixties, Leafs may not have won 4 cups.

Imo, if Sundin had joined the team during that dynasty, he would have been a dissapointment. His story would look more like Bathgate's story than Keon's. Keon had the right stuff, Sundin didn't.

Yeah, that is such BS, boomer.

Mac Miller's album 'circles' was recently released. Amazing.

I hate how he avoids contact and scores goals. Why can't he be more like Tie? We'd be a better team in the standings... AMIRITE.
