Ok Blue Jays Talk / Re: 2021 Blue Jays General Discussion Thread

Jays have also had a difficult schedule (to go along with not having a permanent home) so far. Only 7 games against the bottom-feeders of the league. No games against Baltimore, Detroit, Minnesota, Seattle, etc. As much as their rotation and bullpen have been an issue, there haven't been a ton of games where the pitching staff didn't get the team an opportunity to win. They have a stretch of softer competition coming up leading into the All Star break, and I'd use that as an opportunity to see if they can get some of the guys on the MLB roster their confidence back - with shorter leashes, obviously. Gotta see if they can right the ship before bringing in younger guys or making significant deals.

OK Kyle.

How are we feeling about Pearson at this point...seemed to have a decent game the other day?

Pretty sure it's shaped like Fleur-de-lis.

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

That was aggressive.

I like it. Not saying it's a rip-off or anything but gives me some Leafs vibes too:

He was better than he got credit for.

Yeeeaaaah no.

:)

Not today Frank, NOT TODAY!

Jeez, Frank. Take it easy on him. Way to kick a guy while he's down.

You're right.  That was overly aggressive.

I apologize to all those in mourning for my insensitivity.

Non-Hockey Chatter / Re: Coronavirus

Basically just avoid the provincial layer, which was supposed to be a central system for convenience but they're struggling.

https://vaccinehunters.ca or go through your local public health unit's system.

The other thing, and this is more of a hunch than anything as I can't prove it, but in following the vaccine hunters on twitter I've seen roughly 100x more announcements for vaccines(sometimes lots and lots available) in the areas surrounding Toronto than I have for the city proper(and I've seen virtually none for what a snob like me considers downtown Toronto).

Despite that, it's not like the people I know are having the easiest time getting vaccinated in the city so I can't help but feel as though someone has maybe misjudged demand throughout the GTA and sent more than is needed to the 905.

But again, could just be confirmation bias there.

sus

That was written in early April, FYI.

It'd be nice if the Leafs could draft and develop a damn goalie for once.

I can't believe it.  Now we have to hear from those insufferable habs fans.

Ugh.

Eric Staal looked like garbage in the regular season.  He has 7 points in the postseason. (13 points in 53 regular season games).  This has been one of those things that has been missing off the Leafs teams the last few years where an unexpected guy contributes a lot to help push them over the edge.

I think we had that with Spezza, right?

General Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM 2021-2022: Catharsis

There's some (not super reliable) rumblings out there that Hyman is looking for $5M+ per.

Bye Hyman.

The specific rumour (from an unreliable Edmonton-based reporter) was that he turned down a $5mil offer from the Leafs. That seems to have been debunked about as much as a rumour could be but Chris Johnston followed that up by saying he wouldn't be surprised to see some teams offer him something in the 5's and even high 5's. That I can see, gotta imagine Ken Holland would be the first GM to call him when/if he becomes available. Only way he stays is if he goes the old hometown discount route

I hate the salary cap.

Johnston's quote in the second PPP article hits the nail on the head.  Keefe ought to be getting almost as much vitriol as Marner.

I have the most criticism for Keefe. Several questionable decisions and let's face it, probably his biggest was inserting Sandin into the lineup and unfortunately that didn't work out very well at at all.

Inserting Foligno coming off injury into the second line centre spot in place of Kerfoot when that line was the team's best line in the series, not a great decision.

Yeah, the Foligno thing was a bad call.
