Well, I can understand there being a question since Andersen and Dell had pretty similar numbers this year. And even each of the advanced metrics (QS, QS%, RBS, GA%) barely gives an edge to Andersen. Obviously with the team wanting to win now it would be a pretty big gamble to go with a Campbell/Dell tandem and I agree that it's not going to happen but it really isn't a crazy idea. I mean, we endured a two-month stretch (Jan-Feb) of .890% goaltending from Freddie last year after a .900% October and still were able to maintain a winning record. Andersen isn't exactly Ed Belfour here.
Sure, but Andersen has a track record as a successful starting goalie, which neither Dell nor Campbell have, and, a team looking to win the Cup isn't ditching that to try their luck with a pair of career backups. They're going to give their starter an opportunity to show last season was an aberration - at least, not when he's still under contract.
So, yeah, it is a crazy idea for a team that believes itself to be a Cup contender.
