If Brodeur does test the market Burke should be all over him - who better to mentor Reimer and it keeps Scrivens away from the circus while he develops his chops. This might be the biggest no brainer out there.

I'm genuinely curious, is there a basis for this outside of Brodeur being good and old? Maybe it's me but I don't think those two things necessarily add up to someone being a great mentor for a younger goalie. Most of what I've read about Brodeur is that he's kind of an aloof guy and his style of play is a little unorthodox. He may prove to be a heck of a guy around for Reimer's sake but, I don't know, it's not like Mike Dunham went on to greatness.

agreed. Guys like Giguere have a reputation for nurturing younger goalies, but I have never read of Brodeur acting in that fashion.

While I'm not sure he'd be much of an active mentor or anything, but, his presence would likely help to create some stability in net, provide a calming presence and take Reimer/Scrivens out of the spotlight for a season or two, therefore taking a little pressure off of their shoulders.

I'd be on board with that if I were particularly confident about his play in general. He's had SV %'s of .903 and .908 in the last two years. If he comes in and isn't terribly effective it could lead to another mess, especially if he needs to be benched and raises a stink.

I do not think Brodeur is what leafs need. Bernier from LA might be a great option and rumor has it that leafs would be a choice for him.

Madferret

Hasn't Marty said he's willing to take on a mentor role if thats what needed / wanted of him?

DarrenDreger: Leafs have plaved a call to Pat Brisson with interest in Martin Brodeur.  A simple inquiry..nothing more.

They still have Khabibulin under contract as their veteran net presence. On top of that, I doubt Brodeur wants to play behind that defence.

Not exactly going out on a limb, but if he leaves NJ it bet he goes to the blackhawks.

That's probably the most likely outcome.

Burke says he wants to see the price on Brodeur so the Leafs have some interest. He expects he remains a Devil though.

As per tsn, signed a 2 year deal worth 9million.

It would have been really strange to see MB in other colors.
