Aulie has been struggling so far.

Maybe Gardiner steals his spot this year. Does anyone know if Aulie is still waiver exempt? I think he is, but I haven't checked.
Thats what I was thinking too.  Not sure you could partner Gardiner with Phaneuf though.  I like Phaneuf but he sure does make his d partner work hard.

I don't think that Aulie would go down to the A', but the Leafs have options. They could easily play Liles with Phaneuf and Gardiner with Schenn. The last two might work all kinds of wonder together.

ELC, less than 70 games at age 22 so, yes? Not opposed to Jake stealing his spot but the Leafs could certainly use his size and defensive game.

My projection of our defence right now

Phanuef - Aulie
Schenn - Liles
Franson - Gardiner

sorry gunnar you are good but Gardiner is just better.  Also komi will be there but that is just cause we can't put him on waivers, allready having a shaky training camp when with last year he needed to come into it with everything he had.

I wouldn't think it would be a product of Aulie playing bad, so much as Gardiner playing incredibly well so far. It will be interesting what the Leafs decide to do with this kid, he's all kinds of awesome.

You've seen enough of Franson to depose Gunnar?

I agree..... buuuuuuut..... that's not a lot of experience there among the bottom pairing.  :-\ I think I'd keep Gunnar until I could find a trade for him that would make me happy.

Remember when we had that Lebda guy?  :o

I like this team a lot already this year. It's only preseason but they seem to have a good balance of skill, speed and the ability to play at 2 ends of the rink. Reimer looking like he's the same guy from last year too.

Problem is, neither Franson or Gunnarsson are going on waivers, there would have to be a trade under that scenario. It's Aulie down and Gradiner up or Gardiner down IMO.

Or a giant. Kessel vs Gerby looked the way you describe it.

That was a nice breakup by Aulie.  He has the reach and size I just wish he was nastier i guess.

I hate crunch time like that but yes it's a great problem to have potentially, biggest hurdle is timing though. Trades just don't seem to be made much this time of year and so the Leafs have some time to chew, well that and Jake hasn't played a real game yet.

Oh yeah, Fbomb who?
