Game notes
NSH
•Kevin Lankinen (8-6-1, 2.70 GAA, .917 Sv%) will likely start for the Predators
•Nashville is currently 5 points behind Winnipeg for the final wild card spot in the West, but the Preds do have 3 games in hand there. If they miss the playoffs it'll be the first time for the franchise since the 13/14 season

TOR
•Joseph Woll (2-1-0, 2.04 GAA, .938 Sv%) will likely start for the Maple Leafs
•Probably safe to expect a line-up change or two on the second game of a back to back. Since Simmonds is the only extra healthy forward on the roster we could see him slide back in to give the team 12 forwards for the game

•Toronto didn't practice on Friday, so I'm assuming they use the same line-up as they did on Thursday with the exception of Rielly coming back in for Gustafsson

Quote from: RedLeaf on March 23, 2023, 08:14:33 PMSo we pretty much know it'll be the Lightning vrs the Leafs come playoff time, but who was a better chance of knocking off the Bruins. The Penguins or the Panthers  ?

With their goaltender/defence, neither. I'm rooting for the Islanders to drop to 8th. Sorokin going crazy is probably the only thing that could keep Boston out of the 2nd round.

Murray needs a glove without mesh. What the heck.

Quote from: Zee on March 23, 2023, 05:51:40 PMThe Staal brothers refuse to wear the Florida pride jersey tonight cause of "religious reasons". The actual reason is they're huge pieces of shit.

I've been in the "Staal's are pieces of shit" club for so many years now. Welcome aboard.

Quote from: Bender on March 23, 2023, 06:09:02 PMWhat's going on with this anthem? That was beyond brutal.

I know this isn't in Toronto but goddamn were we blessed with however many years we had Martina for.

Quote from: Guilt Trip on March 23, 2023, 03:14:48 PMThey can keep all 3 if need be. With Muzz on LTIR the Leafs will have 13.9M in space with a 16 man roster(Robertson/McMann/Woll on the roster). They will have options but let's see how this thing plays out this year before getting into who's coming back and all that. Carrying Woll only adds 767K.

Sure. Possible but very, very unlikely. Carrying 3 goalies is usually a nightmare situation for teams (could say the same about carrying 9 defencemen and yet here we are though I guess).

Quote from: L K on March 23, 2023, 11:18:00 AMI think my bigger fear with Woll is going to be his health.  He just had some many issues that I'd be leery of him staying healthy but he seems like more of a positionally sound goaltender.

Sparks was all over the net.  Honestly not all that different from watching Mrazek in net last year.

Murray's inability to stay healthy makes me lean more towards keeping Samsonov and trying to move Murray but these last 12 games/the playoffs will probably be the best way to make an assessment of that.  What Samsonov would want in an extension might also play a role.  If we can get Samsonov and Woll in as a tandem for less than Murray's 4.6M that would go a long way to helping our forward depth with a lot of our bottom 6 needing to be rebuilt.

Yeah, a Murray/Woll tandem next season is just a disaster waiting to happen with their injury history. Even if Murray plays this next stretch of games well I don't think they can keep him if the plan is for Woll to stay up next season.

Quote from: Bender on March 23, 2023, 11:23:36 AMOn paper the Panthers really shouldn't be this bad.

That defence is pretty, pretty bad. No playoff team should have a 36-year old Marc Staal playing top-4 minutes. Also paying $10mil for average goaltending isn't great.

Quote from: herman on March 23, 2023, 07:36:01 AMPretty dope they wear alt jerseys for the game itself too.
They do that in some European Leagues as well. And the refs also wear pride jerseys.

Woah woah woah woah, did those leagues clear that with the Russian government first?

I'm still wary of getting Spark'd again, but a capable back-up making only $766k would be huge for our cap situation the next couple of seasons.
