McDavid vs MacKinnon could be fun, but Edmonton's lack of depth and defence will cost them.

Yeah. Coming in on a high from the series’s against the Flames, the Oilers aren’t going to know what hit them over the head when they face the Avalanche.

And Nylander with the tripping penalty in OT that sets up Canada for the unbelievable comeback win!

I was really hoping him playing well in this tournament would drive up his trade value…..Sorry Herman. :)

The highest scoring team in the reg. season scored 3 goals against Tampa in the entire series.

This is true.

That, and the PP didn't adjust.  Not one time did the  guys on the outside drop their shoulder and drive to the net.  No chaos implementation.

It's like the coaches get fixated on what works in the regular season and then have no answer for the inevitable defensive adjustments.  Vasi was totally takable in this series, but not if you aren't ready to do course corrections.

Yes! Plain and simple folks, when the going gets tough the tough get going, yup it's an old cliché  but it's true, you can't win a cup if you can't play tough and drive to the net, make things happen, in the last 4 years in must win games our PP is 0-18, that's just not acceptable,  again I don't know what the answer is but something has to change.

Let’s be honest though. I’m not sure you can just flip a switch or two to guarantee you a knock-out punch of the back-to-back champs…..who could be up 3 games to zip on the Presidents Trophy winners in a few hours time .

Still thinking about the Leafs game 7 loss. Watching Tampa carve through Florida like butter does remind me of how good this Lightning team really is.

A lot of the uninformed Leaf disbelievers and haters aren’t taking into account the fact the Leafs have been the only team to come remotely close to knocking them off. And that Tampa Bay has been on a run of 9 straight playoff series victories on their way to clinching 2 and maybe even 3 straight Stanley cups.

I know this doesn’t mean much for the causal observer because the Leafs ultimately loss to them, but I think it does show how good this Leaf club is and how close they could be to making a big splash in the playoffs. Hopefully real soon.

I mean any team could beat any team, but it's possible Tampa was the only team that really should have expected to beat the Leafs, and even that was a coin flip. In the east anyway. Colorado is probably another coin flip.

That's the Leafs luck!

Yeah. The Lightning-Leafs series was clearly a coin flip. All the other 8 Tampa victories (going on 9) have not been though. Tampa’s dominated those other teams for the most part. That was sort of my point. They’ll never get credit for losing the series against them by 1 goal, nor should they I guess. But it should be a considering factor when analyzing the current state of this Leafs team. And I think MLSE did just that when they wisely decided to ‘run it back’ for another season.

EDIT: it sucks to have to wait another year to find out but I somehow grow more optimistic about the Leafs finally breaking through next year with every Tampa bay victory. As odd as that sounds .

Round 1, Game 7: Lightning @ Leafs, May 14…

https://www.nhl.com/mapleleafs/video/uber-eats-highlights-rd1-gm7-tbl/t-277437436/c-11714395

Sadly, that wraps up another season. A few things to take away from the 1st round match-up. This team ‘didn’t’ choke. They were at the very least equals to the 2-time champs in this series, and in any other playoff format should have been playing them in the conference final and not the first round.

I hope management think better of doing anything drastic in the off-season that could dismantle this club and the gains this team has made over the past few years. Even though it’s tough to admit this morning… this team feels like it’s on the right trajectory. And the core group (minus maybe Tavares) are still not quite in the prime of their careers.

See you next year Maple Leaf faithful !!

What a bunch of losers!
Played well but no killer instinct.  Can’t say this was a shocker.
But I’m sure next year will be different………sure…just like this year was suppose to be. Just a shitty franchise with a losing culture.

So. I suppose you’re a Leaf fan because you signed up on this site to follow (and not just to be a troll??) . But if they scored the tying goal in the final seconds and won in OT which was entirely plausible, would you be praising them instead? Come on . It’s sports… the nasty BS comments really show your maturity level there le-bo

Agree on all fronts . Nothing else to add really  :-\

Happy Dubas Day, for those that celebrate!

It’s been a solid 4 years of incremental growth. Now we just to win a playoff round or two !!

This team will be the death of me. Hell of a 3rd period.

Honestly.  What a rollercoaster of a game...of a series.

It's exhausting.

Lots of ups and downs and back and forth . Not too different from some on this thread… On the bandwagon off the bandwagon. And then back aboard by the end. They had to do some sprinting and we had to slow down the wagon, but…most were able to climb back on. Lol
