Put Nick Robertson on a line with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews for the first 30 games of the season and see what he's got.

(It remains funny that the 2019 election thread is being used for this election.)

Keep it open...the way things are looking, we may have another one of these next year!

Agreed. I didn't think it necessary to start a new thread.  :-X

Still not sure who I'm voting for.

Jays have a huge advantage today. both 7-inning games. Can avoid taxing the bullpen.

Hopefully Ryu can go deep in game 1. They have Stripling starting game two coming off an extended stay on the injured list so who knows how many innings he's good for.

Jays can pick up a game today regardless, if they win both. Let's go!!!

Edit: Scratch that, Hatch starting game two now.

And the bullpen does it again.  Jays score three runs to take the lead and then Brad Hand implodes and the Jays are losing again

I stopped watching before this happened. Why put Brad Hand in at that point? Bonkers.

Am I the only one who found watching Thornton last year kinda sad? I really didn’t think he had another year in him.

I liked Thornton when he had the puck on his stick. I could count on him to make a good play. I think he needed the puck on his stick to show his worth but that was too few and far between.

Didn't have the speed to change the game when he didn't have the puck. I didn't mind his tenure with the club. Obvious I think he's done at this point.

I am a bit suspicious of MHL/KHL goaltending since the offensive tendencies of the league favour potshots from afar, but Akhtyamov doesn't look shabby here.

Reaction saves, looks quick. I love it.

I thought all the big UFA/pending UFA defencemen deals this summer have been overpayments. Jones. Werenski. Even Hamilton, a guy I like, got maybe about $1mil more than I figured he would. But this is like, what, a $3mil per season overpayment? Just absolutely bonkers.

I agree.

I would think something like 6 years/$7.5m would be the minimum.

I also remember when Dale Mitchell was awesome. Shiny new toy.

I hope he works out.

If he is so good why did the Yotes let him go?  Not an expensive player.

He was a UFA.

And turned down better offers to be here

If I had a dime for every time I heard that...
His girlfriend works for MLSE..

... and she just got a $500,000/year raise. CAP CIRCUMVENTION!!!

Tarasenko for Kerfoot.

I'm hoping that the Leafs get some size, so hopefully they sign a guy like Nick Ritchie or Mark Jankowski.

I'll take that.

Ryan or Bozak would be decent options at 3C. Still bummed about Bonino.

I'll take Ryan.

Should I be excited?  (Confession: been glossing over all the glossing on here surrounding this dude.)

He could end up going back to the AHL or he could end up excelling in a top-6 spot alongside one of the big duos. Or somewhere in between. Who knows. Fingers crossed the Leafs finally get one of those "steals" that we never seem to get.

It's also basically a no-risk move. If he works out, amazing. If not? He'll be good for the Marlies, with no impact on the cap.

Yeah, that's the way I see it. Absolutely no risk move with some upside.
