Shattenkirk to the Capitals
« on: February 27, 2017, 10:05:42 PM »

2017 1st round pick
2018 2nd round pick
Prospect Zach Sanford (2013 2nd round pick)

Some other stuff being put together but Washington really trying to win a Cup I guess.  Hanzal went for more.  That trade is still insane to me.

I imagine the fact that Shattenkirk seems dead-set on exploring free agency (or, if the rumour-du-jour is true, has decided he wants to be a Ranger) had a significant impact on the return for the Blues. Every other rumoured trade seemed to fall apart because he wouldn't sign an extension.

Yeah, as much as the Hanzal return threw gas on the fire this one is a little bit of water. I think JVR/Bozak would still go for decent prices because they have some term left but this doesn't say terrific things about the rental market.

They are the definition of "all in".  If they don't make it to the Cup final at the very least, Ovechkin will probably blow a gasket.

Seems a little light, unless this Sanford kid is better than his numbers suggest.

I'm surprised in the fact that any Shattenkirk trade didn't come with a contract extension.

Three deals already fell apart because of the lack of willingness on Shattenkirk's part to sign an extension.  Hence the (relatively-speaking) poor return.

Yeah. He's pretty set on testing the market/choosing his destination.
