Kinda crazy Babcock is still being paid by the Leafs.

As long as Pridham is still running the cap calcs, it should mitigate a lot of the concerns about Treliving's contract signings.

Huberdeau turns 30 in a few days and is just about to start an 8 year deal with a NMC for $10.5M/year.  What's Pridham supposed to do in that type of scenario except say "yeah, don't do that"

Losing Dubas but keeping Keefe would be... a choice.

You always leave yourself a bullet in the chamber.  Treliving sticks with Keefe, things go badly he fires him and brings in "his guy"

I'll judge him by what moves he makes.  Hopefully he's learned from his past mistakes with the Flames.  I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about the direction of the team now, and I fear the old MLSE boys club is back.  Treliving's dad has connections to the Rogers family and Larry Tannenbaum.  I guess we'll see.

I want a GM that forechecks hard, clears the front of the net, and makes the timely save in a game.

I want a GM who gets up early, stays up late, with uninterrupted prosperity, and who uses a machete to cut through red tape.

It's been mentioned that Hellebuyck has 1 year left, will want a big number and probably not stay in Winnipeg. I can see the new GM trading for him given what we've seen from goaltending in this playoffs. Bobrovsky's run will convince the new regime you only need a goalie. I guess we'll see

As reported previously in the aftermath of the Leafs elimination, Shanahan and Dubas had been at odds for a while. On Friday, more details emerged on that front. Multiple sources close to the team said that Shanahan had blocked transactions that Dubas wanted to make at key points in the past several seasons, creating frustration in parts of the management group. Shanahan had also at times dictated certain moves he wanted made that Dubas didn't agree with.

The president, as per his place in the hierarchy, typically won out in those battles. And, in some cases, the moves that weren't made could have improved the Leafs' ability to advance further in the playoffs.

This is flipping damning if that is the case.  If Shanahan has been dictating moves/blocking moves this organization is screwed.  This whole situation blows. 

I think this is exactly what's going on.

Shanahan should have just named himself GM but of course that would involve taking the direct heat when moves don't work out.  Better to hide in the shadows and block moves and then blame the other guy.

Is Pridham the next to go?

We'll have a new GM next season, almost certainly a new coach, and possibly see a member of the core 4 dealt. Times are changing. All cause the team didn't show up to game 3.

And rightfully so. Liked Kyle but mismanaged the core right from the start and unfortunately tried to fill in holes with other teams cast offs. Plus some deadline deals that wasted some picks which we have been thin on last few years. I understand that though gotta do what you think would put you over the top. Players are more to blame especially this year with the additions we got they should have had a better run. First change and hopefully more.

Careful what you wish for.  We've been down the road of regime changes in the past and they never work out.  If they bring in the polar opposite of Dubas you'll be trading skill for toughness, welcome back 80s Leafs.

There are a lot GMs, a lot of trades, and free agent signings where I think "wow, that's terrible."  Very few of Kyle's transactions are in that group.  Most of the time, at the time of the move, it looks pretty reasonable to me.

In the long sample sizes we get in the regular season, he looks pretty good.

In the short sample sizes of the playoffs, the leafs have failed.  However, ahead of those series, people don't usually say "I think the Leafs will lose this series because their GM has done a poor job building the team."

I can really only come up with two reasons the leafs have lost so often:  (1) luck, (2) some hidden variable I can't put my finger on (this is indistinguishable from luck from my vantagepoint but perhaps not from someone else's who is smarter).

That's a really roundabout way of saying that I can pick out many GMs who I think are worse than Kyle but I can't pick out any that I think are clearly more likely to succeed.  I hope such GMs are out there and that Shanahan picks well.  Or simply that the leafs get lucky.

I would have preferred to have fired Keefe.  He has more direct control over the outcomes.

Now we have to keep Dubas.  Maybe Pridham trades a few good assets to the Leafs for pennies on the dollar. ;-)

I think it's time to really move on from this core. Matthews and Marner just can not get it done in this market come playoffs. They can't handle the pressure or whatever. Matthews will get a boatload in a trade. An American who was MVP last season and Rocket winner. Kings would be a great fit for him. Marner would bring in a huge return as well. Just makes sense to cash out while we can. We can retool and get some young players for next year. Sign Tom Wilson and let's go change the attitude of this team. Give fans something to be excited about again. Bring Boudreau in. We have been more than patient with this core. They've had their opportunities. It's time to move on.

I'm talking playoffs, Matthews does what he does every year and normally the excuse is he's playing hurt.

Again TO could only score 2 goals, Matthews zero, superstars show up when it counts, no excuses well maybe occasionally but certainly not consistently like Matthews.

TO isn't going to do well in the playoffs relying on Matthews and he's only signed for one more year, time to move on.
