General NHL News & Views / Happy Free Agency Day!
July 05, 2013, 08:04:53 AM
I've made it clear I want Clarkson but...

@DarrenDreger
Little doubt David Clarkson will get a 7 year term. Some gm's think he will get $6 mil or higher per

... um, no... Not at that price and term.

@DarrenDreger All indications are the Dallas Stars are about to make a GM change. Detroit's Jim Nill expected to be named GM of Stars as early as Mon.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / The Dave Nonis thread

Pretty good article from Dave Feschuk... Covers a lot

Dave Feschuk ‏@dfeschuk
Some thoughts from Pat Quinn and Black Bears on how Dave Nonis's past has prepared him for the present as Leafs GM

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Marlies Game Day...
October 08, 2012, 05:56:25 PM
I thought one thread for all Marlies games would be okay? Or, if you guys feel like it, they can certainly be split-off...

Anyway, nothing of substance to add but I thought tonight's D parings were kind of funny;

Fraser-Holzer | Ranger-Blacker | Yeo-Gysbers

Go to Google and type "bacon number" and any name. See if you can tie or beat it.

General NHL News & Views / 2012/2013 NHL Injury Thread
August 29, 2012, 06:39:52 PM
Maybe a titch too soon to roll out this thread given the labour uncertainty but it looks as if there is potential for Rene Bourque to miss a chunk of time (maybe a month or so if the season starts on schedule.)

Not confirmed but;

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

Sure sounds like Lidstrom is retiring. Holland won't confirm. Says Lidstrom has earned the right to make his announcement tomorrow.

Yeah, I think think this deserves it's own thread... I mean are talking perhaps the greatest d-man of all time here.

Okay, I'll do it  :P...

Go Kings!... I've got a little money on them.  ;)

Non-Hockey Chatter / twitter "who to follow"
May 24, 2012, 03:37:54 PM
I don't tweet and only follow about 20 people. I just find it handy to get news and other stuff fast. Anyway, for those who use it, you'll be familiar with the "who to follow" section. Since a lot of us have some pretty common interests, I thought it would be fun to do this in house. That is, what (let's say) 3 people do folks here recommend following?... Recommendations don't need to be hockey/sports related at all but those are certainly welcome additions too.

Here's mine;
@680News
@Wilnerness590 (yeah, he's an arrogant boob but his tweets paint a decent enough picture of games I miss.)
@TSNBobMcKenzie (just like the knowledge and reliability and his often ill-fated attempts at being cool.)

Certainly folks don't need to stop at 3. Somewhere down the line, if someone else finds another that's informative or humorous, please share!

Should be another good one... Just a fantastic goaltending match-up. I have reasons for wanting either team to win but simply from a pool perspective, I'm pulling for the Coyotes in this one. However, while I'm hoping for for them to win this one, I'm still a doubter. - Kings in 6.

Should be a good one... Richards/Gaborik vs Kovalchuck/Parise is a wash I think. We have Callahan vs. Clarkson is another nice match up. Overall, I think the Rangers talent level top to bottom is slightly better. Their defence is better and Lundqvist ought to be better. Anything can happen but I just have to go with the better team and with the home ice advantage. - Rangers in 7.

Kudos to my colleague (tenor, Emilio Fina) who just made it to the finals on Canada's Got Talent! Please show your support for him as he chases his dream.

Maybe we need a new bullet point under "Just For Fun" entitled "Fantasy Hockey talk"... Or, maybe not... Anyhoo, I need some advice.

I've decided to completely avoid drafting players from Detroit or Nashville because I think the series is too close to call... I figure if St. Louis can get by San Jose (and I think they can) they'll meet either Nashville or Detroit in round two. How do folks (hypothetically speaking of course) like St. Louis' chances vs. either of those teams?

Todd Bertuzzi's two-year (over 35) extension with DET is $1.975M in Year 1 and $2.175M in Year 2 for an AAV of $2.075M. #TradeCentre #tsn

Good signing by the Wings... and what a career Bertuzzi is putting together in spite of all that happened.

Thought I'd get an early jump on tonight's GDT... I'm going to this one with my daughter which will be her first regular season game ever and only my second post lockout.) Even with all the doom an gloom I'm still pretty stoked that we'll be there this late in the season with the Leafs holding on to that final playoff spot.

Sorry there isn't much here (TSN hasn't done their ICE CHIPS yet and there hasn't been any line-up info announced at this time.) Please feel free to add content as it become available.

Needless to say this one is huge so please, just win baby!

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Ducks shopping Ryan
November 29, 2011, 11:54:22 AM
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/11/29/ducks_ryan/

I'd love this guy... We could have to potentially very good lines if he anchored the 2nd line as Kessel does the 1st... I wonder what it would take.

MCKENZIE: 19,500 SEAT ARENA POSSIBLE FOR MARKHAM, ONT.

"...the wheels are in motion to get this arena built in Markham."

Not much to say about this other then I think it would be a perfect location, setting up a 905 vs. 416 rivalry quite nicely I think.
