Also maybe the Leafs should learn to not do this:
Quote"I hated the first period. I hated the last 10 minutes of the first period, I should say. I thought we started just fine. We got a big power-play goal that got us going.

I thought we were good in the first 10 minutes. Auston hit the crossbar in alone. We got a power-play goal. It seemed like one of those nights where our guys thought it was going to be easy. We know how that goes when that is the case.

There is not going to be much coming easy from here."

Quote from: Frank E on Yesterday at 04:15:17 PMI'd bet once Matthews gets his 70th that that'll be his last shift for the year.

The game still holds some meaning for Florida, so I doubt that'll happen. If he scores early, though, he'll definitely have a lighter night than usual.

Not surprising in the least. Buffalo was terrible this season - and, while they were never likely to be good, they should have been better than they were. Their schedule finished last night, so, they didn't waste time there.

Things left to play for:
  • Matthews 69 --> 70 G
  • Matthews 6 --> 7 hat tricks in one season
  • Nylander 97 ---> 100 pts
  • Rielly 57 --> 60 pts
  • Robertson 14 --> 15 G
  • Lyubushkin 0 --> 1 G
  • Edmundson 0 --> 1 G (He had one with WSH already)

You'd love to see it.  Matthews scores in the first period and then you see him leave for the showers.
I would probably change the channel if he scored (post celebration). It's literally the only thing they're playing for.

Game notes
FLA
•Anthony Stolarz (15-7-2, 2.03 GAA, .926 Sv%) will start for the Panthers
•This will be game 82 for the Florida Panthers but it still has some meaning. A win (or even a point) could potentially earn Florida the top spot in the Atlantic division depending on how Boston does in their final game. Still, it would not be a surprise to see the Panthers rest some players. They will definitely be without Ekblad and Verhaeghe who have missed the past few games but are on track to play in game 1 of the playoffs

TOR
•Joseph Woll (12-10-1, 2.88 GAA, .907 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
•The Leafs will be missing some players in what is their 2nd last game of the season. Bobby McMann and Max Domi are both confirmed out with injuries tonight
•With Domi unavailable Keefe reunited the Matthews and Marner duo at practice for the first time in about a month and a half. Matthews is of course looking for the 70th goal of his season

Quote from: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington on Yesterday at 03:36:21 PMAlso wondering what this could do to the salary cap for 2025/26 onwards. You'd think attendance at Utah games would be around three times higher with their 11k capacity than what the Coyotes were getting, and also with $200m apparently to be distributed among the other team owners as a result of the sale.

The $200M from the sale doesn't impact the cap.
