Aye what's stopping us from 10-8, or better yet, 9-9

I'd love to see them do a 10-8 and rotate the D-men evenly.

I like Murray getting the start. Big goalie stop puck.

Worst trade ever.

Any one else worried that the Leafs haven't figured out their D-pairings with 20 games left to go?

It's possible an injury will solve some of this but I don't really have a solid suggestion. Not great.

Quote from: Bill33 on March 07, 2023, 04:08:48 PMYeah, that's just about perfect, in terms of getting back up to game speed. And I would assume (legit question mark) that he could still skate non-contact and keep his fitness up.

He might be advised to stay off skates for a bit, but he can definitely do other activities (bike, treadmill, etc.) to keep up his fitness.

But can he still play the guitar on road trips :(

Might have some issues there.

Drop D barre chords only.

Use the splint as a slide.

Quote from: lamajama on March 07, 2023, 09:42:13 PMI really like TSN. Sportsnet is crap. Bonsie and Ralph are the best. Just ridiculous they are not on tv let alone follow them on the road.

I was going to say exactly this, get Joe Bowen doing Leafs TV broadcasts again. It was great when he was doing the non-national games.

The jury is out on how well it will get utilized. But you know that only 6-7 will be playing in a given game and the forward depth is dependent on Knies signing or the AHL. I would have liked to have seen at least one of them flipped for a left winger.

I completely agree about a left winger, but was Knies the best option available considering acquisition cost and cap hit? It's definitely a gamble if that was ultimately the decision they made.

My ultimate desire would have been trading Knies + the 2023 1st round pick for Troy Terry (cap hit 1.45m). That would have had me dreaming about a Stanley Cup.

This JVR trade to Detroit/not Detroit to try and generate interest in the end of the trade deadline

They are in cahoots with Sportsnet.

Quote from: Dappleganger on March 01, 2023, 11:06:20 AMDude... they got JVR for Schenn. I think that one worked out ok. ;)

Sorry, I was definitely thinking where the Leafs made a "bad trade" where they traded someone who went on to be better after leaving the Leafs but didn't generate an adequate return, which is what is worrisome about the Sandin move.

This is starting to feel like a pretty narrowly defined concept.

I tried to clarify. Sorry.

People don't moan about the trading Schenn away cuz they got JVR in return.

People do moan about trading Stralman away cuz they got diddly squat in return for him.

I think that's why people feel the way they do about Stralman's departure from the Leafs.

Honestly, it's slim pickings.

Hilariously, Kessel, Bozak, Kadri, Schenn have all gone on to win Cups after leaving the Leafs, within a relatively short span of time

You're taking me out of context, all those players already had decent NHL careers when they were traded. See below.

Quote from: Dappleganger on March 01, 2023, 10:29:00 AMI think the Stralman thing is, if you at all the Leafs trades over the last 20 years, he's one of the few players traded away, who was a legit NHL player, and went on to have a decent career. Most didn't.

I feel like I can think of quite a few players the Leafs traded away who went on to have decent careers.

Quick glance - maybe these players:

Mason Marchment
Nazem Kadri
Carter Verhaeghe
Carl Gunnarsson
Luke Schenn
Matt Stajan

A few of those guys were not "legit" NHL'ers when they were traded. Previous post explains what I meant. Sorry for being ambiguous.

For example, Leafs knew what they had in Kadri when they traded him. Leafs don't know what Sandin is at this point, no one does, similarities to the Stralman trade back in the day.

I hope that makes sense.
