I was bored and couldn't sleep so I made my ideal vision of the 2013-2014 Leafs on capgeek. Basically here is what the story is...

-Buy out/Trade Grabovski, he just isn't worth the money

-Resign Bozak (5 year/5 mill), as much as people like to hate on him he has become an effective top six centre for the Leafs and proven to be very versatile.

-Resign Kadri (2 year/3.5 mill) short term contract with decent money to prove his production wasn't a fluke

-Sign Nathan Horton (5 year/4.75 mill) I think with Bozak/Kadri playing center the Leafs are one winger away from having a true top six. Nathan Horton is the ideal UFA I would target but if not him than sign ex leaf Brad Boyes to a short term deal.

-Resign Clarke Macarthur (3 years/3 mil) I debated this given in 2014 Leafs will have to resign Kessel, Phaneuf, and Reimer but with Lupul it is a question of when he is going to be injured not if so we need a depth forward. He gets a paycut because time has proven him to be a depth forward but not a 62 point player. If he wants more money he can walk.

-Sign Maxim Lapierre (1 year/1.5 mil) High value bottom six player, he makes 1 million in Vancouver I figure 1.5 would entice him to join the Leafs.

-Keep the defence status quo, resign the RFA's and give Rielly a chance to make the team.

Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Re: Luongo
March 06, 2013, 02:13:04 PM
Tweets from Damien Cox:

"Worth noting at June draft Canucks could've had Kadri, Bozak and a pick for Luongo. Got greedy. Now have lost as many as have won."

"Canucks were looking for something more like Gardiner, Frattin, 1st round pick and another piece. Felt could demand that from weak Leafs."

"Those who once sneered at possibility Kadri or any Leaf wud be adequate compensation for Luongo now insisting that deal never available."

"Gillis banked on Leafs not be able to get far with Reimer/Scrivens combo, wud come begging for Luongo. To be fair, many agreed with him."

Put Kadri between Van Reimsdyk and Kessel, see what happens!

It's getting a little embarassing at this point, especially because its such a non-story. It's the 800-pound gorilla in the room: Komisarek is all but written out of the Leafs lineup at this point.

He has cumulatively played almost exactly 1 hour all season long. What becomes of him from here on in? He could be done.

It's difficult because why buy out his contract this summer when he has one season left? He may have to be buried on the Marlies. Its a shame because I have always liked the guy, but his on-ice feats since with the Leafs have left much to be desired.

Because he has a no movement clause and the buyout is use it or lose it

This is what I would like to see going forward.

1) Trade Bozak and a prospect for O'Reilly
2) Sign Getzlaf as a UFA
3) trade/buy out Grabovski in the offseason

Making our top 9

Van Reimsdyk - Getzlaf - Kessel
Lupul - O'Reilly - Kulemin/MacArthur/someone else
Frattin - Kadri - Kulemin/MacArthur/someone else

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Goaltending conundrum v2.0

Why would we aquire a goalie when Reimer will be back soon and Scrivens is capable of starting a couple games until then?

If the injury is serious how about Alex Auld? I checked and he is playing in the Australian Hockey League at the moment.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Bozak's Future

Bozak has been really unappreciated in Toronto. Personally I hope we can resign him and if we upgrade at C we can either trade or buy out Grabovski who hasn't really been producing since he signed the new contract. I have been really impressed with Bozak's defensive play this season and I think he would be great in the number two slot.

Of course this assumes we can upgrade, the only player on the free agent list I would take as an upgrade from Bozak would be Getzlaf and it is questionable if we can land him. If we can't then who are we going to give up in a trade.

I am more comfortable with Sticking with Bozak, Grabovski, Kadri as our centers than most.

I might be interested, are the teams their current rosters?
#15
James Van Riemsdyk/Mikhail Grabovski/Phil Kessel
Joffrey Lupul/Tyler Bozak/Clarke MacArthur
Nikolai Kulemin/Matthew Lombardi/Matt Frattin
Tim Connolly/David Steckel/Mike Brown

Dion Phaneuf/John Micheal-Liles
Carl Gunnarrsson/Mike Komisarek
Korbinian Hotzer/Mike Kostka

Gardiner is out with a concussion so I don't expect to see him back. Kostka deserves a shot with the Leafs if anyone does, that guy has been amazing with the Marlies.
