Roster still needs at least 2 forwards and one defenceman. There's $1.669mil to fill those spots. Add two league minimum forwards and there's $169,384 in cap space. Don't gotta be a CBA expert to know that's not enough to sign Sandin.

I think Dubas' infatuation with some players is a detriment to this team. I like Sandin and I think he's one of those guys Dubas loves so don't see him going anywhere. Somebody else has to go and hopefully it's Holl for me but another player for some reason that gets a lot of love from management. Going to be interesting something has to give to finish this roster.

Not crazy about it. Playoffs showed what he brings to the table and Dubas and company should see that. For a guy his size no physicality whatsoever. I would rather have seen a younger player get an opportunity to fill some of these spots.

Can we pull off Sandin + Engvall for roughly 3M combined?  If we can do that and trade Holl for nothing we could in theory go with a very tight cap number.  Could demote Simmonds/Gaudette and run with 12 forwards instead to have a league minimum 7th D instead without trading Kerfoot.  If we did this we would have about 300K wiggle room on the cap ceiling.

Matthews-Bunting-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall (1,500,000)-Jarnkrok-Robertson
Gaudette-Kampf-Aube-Kubel

Muzzin-Sandin (1,600,000)
Liljegren-Giordano

Personally I would rather see Dubas take Simmonds out to pasture.  I don't really see what he brings at this point.  His play has been really uninspiring and the 4-5 fights he might have in a season really don't justify a routine lineup spot.  I would have rather seen Spezza signed for another year over Simmonds although I understand why he retired.

Actually don't care if Engvall walks. Didn't care for him for most of the season and then he seemed to step it up, used his size more and benefitted from it. Come playoff time his true colours came out. Disappeared. Not a huge loss in my opinion if not resigned. Simmonds can go to.

Wow gets better every day.

I think Muzzin is otw outta dodge.

I have seen some speculation around that. Nothing concrete, though.

I don't see how they can keep him and Sandin if Dubas is committed to the Sandman at LD, which he alluded to today. They also want a heavy RD and could use the leftovers on another forward beside Engvall.

Once the crazy train from today slows down, he will fetch a decent return. Any dman that hits got paid today, I suspect there will be a decent market for Muzzin, even with his injury issues.

Strome would be nice, but he might end up with his brother in Anaheim.

So after seeing Burns go for not much and some salary retained who would you rather have Burns or Muzzin. There’s yourqb on the PP we’ve been lacking. Up there in age but still an effective player.

Pens snag Malkin, we snag Malgin.

What anyone expect? Team can't really do anything as Bustaheims eluded to. I honestly see the team taking a step back unless Dubas makes a major trade.

Mark my word another mistake. Dubas keeps trying to fix problems he created. Keeps trying to plug holes with spare parts no one else wants. Brutal.

Why, as a leafs fan, would you hope that this doesn’t work? Why do you choose negativity?

The leafs could have waited for free agency and struck out on all the goalies and be left with nothing. At least this way they have certainty.

And has been mentioned, the leafs had below average goaltending for almost half the season and still had a record number of wins and points.

Choose optimism. Be a freaking fan for once.

If in the end it doesn’t work out well whatever, life goes on.

Half the post are for it half are against. Does that mean negativity? It's a forum and everyone has their opinion. I personally don't think we accomplished sweet f all by getting rid of Mrazek and signing Murray. Hell maybe he bounces back. As a FAN I'd love to see it but Dubas' handling and overpayments I said it 2-3 years ago we would be struggling to fill out the roster. Our 4th line and other important pieces have been crap because he doesn't have the room to sign guys that can play an important role and maybe move someone down whether to the 4th line or bottom D. All players signed cheap are players that are pretty well done or other teams don't want.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Leafs and sens talking about Murray
« on: July 11, 2022, 08:37:40 PM »
Unless Murray rediscovers the game he had in his first few years in Pittsburgh, I'm not convinced he's an upgrade. Of course, Campbell comes with similar questions (is he the Campbell we saw in 2021? 2022? Somewhere in between?).

Other than Kuemper, there aren't great obvious options out there. They're all sort of in the "he can be really good in the right situation/circumstances" types, and that's not the best group to be plucking from. If Murray ends up being the cheapest (both in terms of cap and acquisition cost) and performs similarly, then maybe it's the right move - but, there's a lot of ifs and maybes. Unless Dubas really feels he can't land Kuemper or Murray is being brought in with double retention, little to no cost (or, even, some sort of asset included - though, with double retention, that would be unlikely) as a 1B/platoon/backup, I don't think there's urgency to get this done.

Game has sucked for the last 3 years and I'm with you not really an upgrade from Mrazek in my opinion. Oh well what do you expect when you try and fill important pieces when you've handcuffed yourself.

Dubas picks up Murray I don’t know what he’s thinking. Be another Mrazek f up. In this predicament because never drafted or picked up an actual bonafide starter. Campbell wasn’t proven and debate still out there if he can lead a team to a Stanley Cup.

Why aren't they qualifying these guys? Kubalik seemed to be pretty decent?

Am I the only one who doesn't really get the Dach trade? Like, if you have a 21 year old C with size who a team took with the #3 pick three years ago and they're willing to let him go for the #13 pick...that's probably a bad sign?

Completely confused with Chicago's thinking here. First Debrincat now Dach. Zee you're bang on obviously tanking for next year. I get the rebuilding but doesn't make sense trading 2 young players who should have been part of the future for the Hawks.

Wonder if Dubas explored picking up Debrincat? Wonder if our first and Robertson could have gotten it done?

Chicago wtf are you doing?

15
Starting Goalie: Mrazek
Top-6 Winger acquisition: Robertson
1st round pick: trade down, get Rutger McGroarty and Owen Beck
UFA bargain bin: Giordano counts, and probably Blackwell again
Marlie that makes the roster: Robertson and Holmberg

This is a terrifying prophecy.

Another mistake that he's dreaming may actually turn out. If Leafs start the season with him as the starter we're hooped. If Dubas can get rid of him somehow it'll make my day.
