Main Leafs Hockey Talk / NHL Rookie of the Month Club
February 07, 2017, 06:20:38 PM
OK, I couldn't resist. With the Leafs taking the honors 3 of 4 times, it's now simply a question of which Leaf will win for February.

Through 3 Feb games so far:

Matthews: 4 points - 1/3
Marner: 4 points - 2/2
Nylander: 4 points: 4/0

So, who takes it? My money is on Marner again.

I figured he deserved his own thread. Nice article about MM at MLHS:

Former Leafs: Ex-Files / Russian Hipsters
January 31, 2016, 04:47:22 PM
I stumbled on this at The Fourth Period's website. David Pagnotta is doing a video series with NHL players, and the first one features Nik Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski. It's called Russian Hipsters and is pretty good. Here are his words about the project:

Earlier this week, I unveiled a new project I've been working on. Jumping on board with a new killer production team, we'll be bringing you weekly videos that are pretty out-of-the-box and entertaining. A number of your favorite NHLers will be featured in them, and I'm pretty excited about the opportunity... and seeing everyone's reaction to our creations.

The first video was unveiled on Wednesday, and all our fun player skits will be released on Hump Day, so be prepared. This one features Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolay Kulemin of the New York Islanders trying to fit in to their surroundings. Enjoy!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Tank Nation: Matthews Edition
December 14, 2015, 04:21:53 PM
I had to go to page 5 for this one, but for good reason. With a Columbus victory tonight the Leafs will have sole possession of last place. And still have a ROW of 7. Hello Auston Matthews!  :D
Leafs Rumours & Speculation / Nikita Zaitsev
November 14, 2015, 11:57:37 AM
Apparently Friedman thinks there is a strong possibility he will be a Leaf (please forgive me for not knowing how to embed tweets).

Friedman on Zaitsev: "Everybody in the league believes he's going to Toronto." Lot of teams feel it's signed, sealed and delivered. #Leafs

Does anyone know much about his guy? Where would he slot in the Leafs' D?
Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Leafs acquire Michael Grabner
September 17, 2015, 11:30:15 AM
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has acquired forward Michael Grabner from the New York Islanders in exchange for forwards Taylor Beck and Carter Verhaeghe, defencemen Matt Finn and Tom Nilsson, and goaltender Christopher Gibson.

This opens up some contract spots so maybe all those PTOs make more sense now?
FWIW... I wasn't sure this deserved its own thread, but didn't know where else to put it.

I thought I would post this here, since this player is no longer a Leaf, and now we know exactly where he is (now).  Lindstrom signs in the KHL for next season.

I think it might be good to have a new thread as today's events likely produce lots of news/opinion.  I haven't had a chance to listen yet because of work, but thought I would share this quote from Bruce Arthur's article earlier today.  I like reading things like this, whether it makes a difference in the product who knows, but I think he has been saying all the right things so far.

That is what Shanahan keeps saying, publicly and privately. He doesn't want to settle. In October he told me that winning a Stanley Cup here running the Leafs would mean more than anything he accomplished as a player. The three Stanley Cups, the gold medal, everything. He was born here and raised here, went to his prom as an 18-year-old NHL player here. His family and friends are still here. He's emotionally invested in this thing.

General NHL News & Views / Steve Montador found dead

A sad story this morning.  He was so young.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Reimer avoids arbitration
July 25, 2014, 03:54:50 PM
Surprised I haven't seen a post yet, but Reimer signs for 2 years, 2.3 million per.
Is it too soon??   ;D  I figure we can start drawing conclusions about Carlyle after tonights game.  Maybe he'll get the 'greatest' vote in the early going, but inevitably, he will be fired!
I didn't see this anywhere so thought I would post.  According to SI, the most overrated player in the NHL is none other than Dion Phaneuf.  I wouldn't normally post an SI link, but this was a poll of 167(?) NHL players.  Personally, I don't agree but I'm a Leaf fan.

Interesting to see Ovechkin at #2.  Personally, the guy is a force on the ice so not sure how he's overrated, but whatever...
A Coyotes blogger just posted this over at Hockeybuzz.  Since it wasn't Schleplund I figured it was worth posting, even if just to give people something to debate  8)

How would you feel about trading Kadri for a young center like Turris??  He might do very well given a big increase in minutes over what he got in Phoenix.  Link:  http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Adam-French/Kyle-Turris-for-Nazem-Kadri-Close/155/37090

Oops, already in the GM thread.  Sorry, please remove while I go stand in the corner.   :-X
