Quote from: Zee on Yesterday at 10:12:47 AMYeah, it was Brad's decision to hire Berube, so why is Shanahan at the press conference?

Better yet why is he still employed?

Quote from: Zee on May 09, 2024, 02:16:11 PMFirst question for Treliving, why was one of your first actions as GM giving a 2 year extension to the coach only to relieve him of his duty 8 months later before the extension even kicks in?

Ya I didn't get that either. He should have been gone along with Dubas and Shanahan all at the same time. MLSE likes throwing away money we know that.

Quote from: herman on May 09, 2024, 09:23:15 AMIs it unfair of me to keep hitching Keefe's style and Marner's style together? Great regular season results (but not outright dominant...), and middling to sour playoff results.

Is it Mitch Marner style, or is he just a very good follower of his coach's requests? Keefe kept saying Marner played great, but it very visibly wasn't what we needed from him.

Yes, it is.

Well, now we'll test the hypothesis.  If Marner can't adapt better in next season's playoffs (assuming we make it) that gives us the answer.

Nothing to do with the coach. He doesn't have what it takes to play hard nosed playoff hockey. Nothing will change. See if we can unload him and move on. Listening to people who want to run it back or think things will miraculously change are incorrect. Time for a change folks.

Quote from: Bender on May 05, 2024, 12:00:10 PMIt's hard to really care that much when I already wrote this team off for dead. I doubt I care as much going forward without a major shakeup to the roster.

I honestly feel the exact same. I had no expectations that they'd get out of the first round against either Boston or Florida. So I can't say I'm disappointed, if anything they met expectations.

This was a flawed team game 1 of season and this was a flawed team game 7 of round 1.

Honestly I don't even care what they do with the roster, other than Matthews and Nylander, I don't give a shit.

It's kind of hilarious that so many fans are in the same mind set. Ready for some sort of shakeup, not really mad about losing this season. I was checked out so early it's not even funny

Hopefully management thinks the same that some changes are needed both on and off the ice.

Quote from: Big Daddy on May 06, 2024, 12:53:13 PMTwo things

Only way I trade Marner is if Chicago wins the draft lottery and we
trade him for the #1 overall Celebrini, I'm sure Marner would wave to
go play with Bedard

Extend Tavares with a 4M x 2 years and get his buddy Stamkos here on a
4M x 3 years and they can retire together

You're not getting Celebrini for Marner.

Quote from: CarltonTheBear on May 06, 2024, 12:47:44 PMIf Marner goes to Treliving on July 1st and says he's willing to sign an identical extension to Nylander's (8 years, $11.5mil), do you do it?

No not a chance. His time in TO should be done. If he doesn't want to waive screw him. Overpaid now the way I look at it. Let's not keep making the same mistake. Guys are paid handsomely and not to just produce in the regular season. Obvious he can't elevate his game when it really matters and he's not the only one mind you but something needs to change and unfortunately it'll probably be him.

I'm the exact same. Had major doubts about this team all season and wasn't happy when they ran it back with this core. Something needs to happen. I can honestly say I get wound up and take each game seriously but this year I'm not going to lie and say I'm not disappointed but I'm not surprised nor have the same feeling after another 1st round exit. Kudos to them for how they played the last 3 games exactly the type of hockey that's needed come April. Keefe needs to go one because he hasn't gotten this team over the hump and secondly because of his stubbornness not to change up the PP. Instead of maybe trying Lilly back there he kept rolling out the same group with some changes due to injuries. For those saying a shot isn't needed on the PP sorry you're wrong. PP I think cost us and they should be looking seriously at acquiring a solid number 1 D man who can quarterback a PP. See what happens hopefully Pelley has seen enough. Shanahan, Keefe and Marner should be the first 3 to go.

Quote from: TBLeafer on May 04, 2024, 11:12:17 PMHow long before Ovi got his CUP? Blowing it up and calling for blood too quickly has always been our downfall as fans. I'll stand by that, being guilty of it myself.

Core should stay. Coaching staff absolutely needs to change.

Moving one core player is hardly "blowing it up."

Marner really isn't an issue. If anything I'd move Tavares and name Matthews captain.

What playoffs have you been watching? Regular season stats are great but when you constantly shit the bed in the playoffs and disappear then time to move on. Matthews has shown me that at least he's willing to take a hit, give out a hit do the little things to win. He wasn't 100% that's too bad maybe Mitch wasn't either but Mitch has been a no show every year in the Playoffs. How long is enough is enough? His size compared to others doesn't help but he has shown repeatedly he isn't built for playoff hockey.

I will disregard any quotes that begins with "what playoffs have you been watching?"

So then explain to me how Marner hasn't been an issue?

Quote from: Captain Canuck on May 04, 2024, 11:18:50 PMThe team as it's currently constructed is fatally flawed and I've been saying it for a few years now. Too much $$$ tied up in the "core four" and not enough put into the blue line and between the pipes. The worst part about it is all the no-trade or no-movement clauses in the contracts. Hopefully they can convince either Tavares or Marner to move along because they need the money to upgrade the areas of the team they've been cheaping out on and with predictable results.

Been harping that for years and finally I think others are starting to see it as well. Hopefully upper management finally does.

Pastrnak points to the corner dump aiming for the bounce.

Lucky play but my question is could Samsonov have come out, poke checked or disrupted the play. Deep in his net the whole time.
Yup..same old story with him. Makes great saves and then let's in 2 soft goals.

He was basically frozen in his net.

Quote from: herman on May 04, 2024, 10:22:04 PMWell that was a tough way to go down, but well done by the team to take it all the way.

Yeah, that was a great playoff game.

Funny thing is, the D led the way when we thought they wouldn't.

I hope they keep Edmundson.  He and McCabe and Benoit look like a solid threesome back there.

And credit to Sammy, he played a really good game.
And yet let in another shitty goal and did nothing on the winner...Get out and get it. Glad that's the last of him

And put our fate in the hands of a guy who hasn't demonstrated that we can play a full season?  To be clear, I don't see Samsonov returning but Woll is still a big question mark.  What the hell happened to him anyway?
Woll is a question mark but will be part of the tandem. They need another goalie anyway so it's not a bug deal.  Sammy killed them with shitty goals. Great guy but team killer.

See if you can send Marner to Nashville for Saros or NY for Sorokin.

How does Rielly get out-skated to the puck?  He was minus 2 tonight.  And anchored a power play that was awful this series.  And didn't hit all series (naturally).  Man , it is amazing that he gets a relatively free ride by the media for the Leafs defensive woes, IMHO.

He was great last year, mediocre or worse this time.  He deserves some heat for this.

Gets married and is a dud. I've always liked Morgan but his D sucks and again him QB'ing a PP is a mistake. Only good thing he did was take a team discount but I don't know what the issue is this year. He wasn't good.

Got home just turned it on to see Nylander score only to see Reilly play his usual good D. Puck should have been out as soon as it came back into the Leafs zone.
