Something's gotta give!

I don't think you can circumvent a no-trade list by involving a 3rd team. I imagine that 3rd team would need to honor the no-trade list the player submits.

Boo all New York teams. Except the Jets. Double boo them. Actually, I can't wait for Hard Knocks!

Quote from: Bender on July 05, 2023, 01:11:30 PMWill be really odd seeing Tarasenko in a Sens jersey.

It's odd seeing anyone choose to play for an organization that has a giant zero for a logo and a GM who most proud of the fact that they are indeed a team.

They need to trade Murray. The buyout doesn't provide enough cap relief, mostly in 24-25.

I hope they sign him, even at 10 mill. Season after this one coming up is the tough one, but if the cap is up like they say it's going to be, that helps.

I'm down. Treliving putting his mark on the team and it might even work!

Quote from: L K on July 02, 2023, 04:07:38 PMI wouldn't hate Tavares-Marner-Bertuzzi if we went Knies-Matthews-Nylander

I hope this moves keeps Knies out of the top-6. I think he could be a solid complimentary player on one of those lines for sure, but I think his scoring touch is significantly more needed on the 3rd line.

I agree. Maybe Knies is a top 6 eventually, but let's see him play a few more games till he's a staple winger for Matthews.

I like it. I know anti-vaxxers and if they're not the 'anyone that got the vaccine is dead in 3 years, or the 'Bill Gates is microchipping us' bunch, then whatever. They're jerks, but I can tolerate them.

Quote from: Bill_Berg_is_less_sad on July 02, 2023, 06:40:52 AMI generally agree. What irks me a little is losing Acciari, now maybe that doesn't directly relate to signing Reaves, but it's hard not to compare them a little.

OK but Acciari isn't ROR. Like, if we really need a guy like that at some point I'm pretty confident that the Leafs can add a guy like that if need be without much of a draft cost. Like, if we're not generally confident that our GM can make that kind of addition at a reasonable price then we probably have bigger concerns than just Acciari vs. Reaves.

The Leafs almost certainly aren't finished with tinkering about with their bottom 6 and my guess is that when all is said and done it'll be fairly comparable to what they've had in recent years.

No comparison to ROR intended.  I just liked Acciari and felt the deal he got was worth it.

Quote from: Bill_Berg_is_less_sad on July 02, 2023, 08:28:55 AMI don't completely buy the 'wasn't a dollars or term' story for ROR.

Maybe, but I think it's kinda telling that he went to a team where he's clearly going to have a more prominent role than he would here. It's not like he left for another contender. Nashville is a bubble team at best, and ROR is now their #1 C.

That I may buy, but the twittidiots are claiming locker room cancer Bob Loblaw. Maybe ROR is excited to live in Nashville.

Quote from: dekedastardly on July 02, 2023, 07:11:52 AMLosing O'Reilly & Acciari sucks, but I'll reserve judgement until I see what else goes on. Reaves comes pretty cheap and ramps up intensity significantly.

I wanted to keep them both too, but ROR's contract is a steep one imo. Acciari's would have been a good one though.

And the thing is I have a hard time believing they didn't try to extend those guys. Tre said it wasnt a dollars or term issue with O'Reilly. The Leafs don't exist in a vacuum and FAs can and do go elsewhere even on good teams. Losing Acciari hurts in the sense that I liked his play, but look up his stats. He's not irreplaceable.

I don't completely buy the 'wasn't a dollars or term' story for ROR. And sure, Acciari is replaceable, but he still needs to be replaced.

NHL Transactions / Re: Nashville signs ROR & Schenn

I don't know, I'm thinking Treliving wasn't willing to put that money and term on an aging player. Can't believe all the things you hear.

Could also be that ROR didn't want to wait and Treliving is waiting for Matthews and Nylander to be straight before spending 24-25 season cap dollars.

Quote from: Nik on July 02, 2023, 06:15:03 AMI don't think this deal is great or anything but anyone who's legit worked up about it has been poisoned by GM brain. It's a small deal for a 4th line guy. They can buy if they need to, they can probably trade it if they need to and the odds of it having a significant on-ice effect on the club is pretty small either way.

I get it. We all want to be cap gurus and be up on every detail to think of ourselves as informed fans but if you're mad because this small inexpensive deal might not work out or it might be a year too long or a couple hundred thousand too much, that's touch grass kind of stuff. If Reaves sucks, sure, tear into it but this seems like exactly the sort of low-stakes thing everyone can afford to have a wait and see attitude about.

I generally agree. What irks me a little is losing Acciari, now maybe that doesn't directly relate to signing Reaves, but it's hard not to compare them a little.
