Quote from: Significantly Insignificant on October 31, 2023, 11:20:32 AMAt this point I think the Leafs just need a real 3C so that Kampf can move down a line.  Not sure if they have it internally.

Tavares would make an amazing 3C even after his current contract expires.

2026-27

Cowan (ELC) - McDavid (14M) - Marner (12M)
Robertson (2M) - Matthews (13.45M) - Nylander (10M)
Minten (ELC) - Tavares (1.91M) - Knies (3M)
Hirvonen (1.3M) - Kampf (2.4M) - Tverberg (900k)

Rielly (7M) - Liljeren (2.37M)
Kokkonen (1M) - Niemela (1.4M)
Cheapo-Cheapo

Woll (4M)
Cheapo

The Robertson, the ELCs, and 4th line guys can be subbed out for UFA cheapos, or Moldenhauer/Grebyonkin depending on how they're rolling.

Has there ever been a team in the history of the NHL that has had three first overall picks as their top 3 centers?  I think the Leafs should do it just for that reason.

I mean I guess the season the Leafs had Thorton, depending on where they slotted him, that could have counted....but it was a 42 year old Joe Thorton.

Quote from: Madkenstalin on October 29, 2023, 09:56:36 AMI was looking forward to seeing him play. It sounds like he was settling in really well, putting up decent numbers and seemed to be a real positive in the dressing room. My bosses son in law plays on the same team as him.

My partner has knife proof sleeves available for troublesome pupils.i don't know why a neck guard and maybe even something to cover all vital arteries isn't available.

I feel bad for you and other fans, not to mention his friends and family.  What a horrifying thing to happen.

There were 8000 or so in the building, including many kids. The video was also being shown live on a webcast and has seemingly also been widely circulated on social media since (that's another debate). I'm so thankful I haven't seen it.

I don't know how you would cope seeing that happen in the arena. I also take my 5 year old fairly regularly now and I can't even imagine how you start to explain it or deal with a kid who's seen it.

I've also a huge amount of sympathy for the Sheffield player whose skate did the damage. How do you accept that even knowing it was a freak accident.  (And again I've seen some disgraceful stuff targeted at him on social media including calling him a murderer).

On some level this is social commentary on how bad we as a society we have become.  I often use the Danny Heatley incident as a reference.  After Danny Heatley demanded a trade out of Ottawa, his first came back was a gong show.  People had signs up in the stands with the text "Dangerous curves ahead" and "We don't want a murderer here anyway".  People took the worst day of that mans life and used it against him in a public way because he didn't want to play hockey in Ottawa anymore. That's it.  And somehow, because of that he deserves to have that thrown in his face.  Kind of despicable when you think about it.

Quote from: Frank E on October 28, 2023, 12:28:36 PMThis is the game when all you lemmings discover that McCabe is indeed the linchpin of the group...7-2 Preds.

Get well soon General McCabe.

If I read this post correctly, you would like all of us sheeple to open our eyes.

Prepare yourself for an awakening.

Oh I am so prepared I could sail right off the edge of the flat earth.

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on October 26, 2023, 09:19:50 PMI don't want to get too excited about Woll, but I am excited.  About Woll.

I misread this. I was going to say that if you are this excited about wool, wait till you experience cashmere and silk.

Well, I did say it sheepishly.

Baaaaaad pun

Nicely played, even worse — which makes it even better.

Leafs win and we all get punny

Quote from: L K on October 26, 2023, 08:33:50 PMReally not liking the effort.  So many terrible clearing attempts leading to the a Leafs being hemmed in.

Jarnkrok isn't doing anything on the Matthews/Marner line.  The fourth line is unplayable.

I think Dallas has grown wise to the little drop pass at the line.

I think Bertuzzi and Domi are struggling because they thought they were pretty good at life.  Then they came to a team that has William Nylander on it, and well now their confidence has been shaken.

Brodie is struggling.  Who do you put the struggling defenseman with when the defenseman who is struggling is the one you usually put struggling defenseman with?

Quote from: Arn on October 26, 2023, 12:46:44 PMInterestingly Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United (the football team I follow) has just been banned for 10 months for betting on illegal betting platforms in Italy.

It's unclear if he bet on football or matches his then team AC Milan were playing in.

Meanwhile on Sunday he played his last game before the suspension and received an ovation of support from the fans while walking past the various advertising boards in the ground that were showing adverts of the league and clubs betting partners.

Ivan Toney of Brentford is nearing the end of a ban for betting. When he returns he will be playing in a shirt with a betting company on the front as the main sponsor.

Both players have been diagnosed with gambling addictions.

I think a sports and gambling reckoning similar to the smoking one is required...

I agree that something must be done.  My kids watch the Leaf games with me, and they have commented on the number of betting ads that come up during the game.  On the radio yesterday though they were saying that the leagues are probably going to push for more betting avenues because it increases fan involvement with the game.  I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing for society.  Things that are tied to making more money rarely are good for society though.
