Spezza was always going to get more because of how the league looks at targeted reprisals/headshots. 6 seems like one or two games too much to me but I don't think this is wildly out of place with how the league tends to hand out suspensions.

[The Award is for Canada's best athlete. Well....#1 is the BEST Athlete in the World so while the others are noted, he should win it...easily.

That may be a little overly literal about the claims that the Decathlon makes about itself. It's the guy who's the best all-around at a bunch of Olympic events. I don't know if that automatically translates into "best athlete in the world".

That said, I'd be fine with that particular choice. I just think there are arguments either way.

The Lou Marsh award winner will be announced tomorrow and it's pretty ridiculous looking over this year's candidates:

1. The Olympic Decathlon Record Setter
2. The 200m Gold Medal sprinter
3. The Olympic swimmer who won 3 medals
4. The elite tier Soccer player who's taken Canada to the top of CONCACAF qualifying
5. The hockey player who's the best player in the world by miles
6. The baseball player who just had the best season a 22 year old player has ever had

Canada is so spoiled for choice this year that the Basketball player who averaged 24/6/5 might not even get any consideration.

See, the joke was that this version of the franchise would soon leave Winnipeg for another city, no matter how ridiculous it would be to put a NHL franchise there because it would still be preferable to being in Winnipeg. The Bottle City of Kandor was just a picture perfect use of Comedy's Rule of Threes, wherein each suggestion is more ridiculous than the last.

Eh. I say let them have their fun before this version of the team leaves for San Antonio or Port-Au-Prince or the bottle city of Kandor.

Lousy way to lose but on the road against a good team and without Marner? Take the point and move on.

When they were located downtown at what is now the Talking Sticks Arena, they were drawing a lot of fans.

So this isn't particularly true. ESPN's attendance figures only go back to 2000 but their last few years in Downtown Phoenix they were basically drawing about as much as they have for most of their history in Glendale, give or take about 1,000 people, which is a pretty far cry from "a lot". They may have been drawing more before that but, if so, that's pretty clearly just a bump from being new in town.

Regardless, the difference between being financially viable or not isn't the 2000 or so fans that would bump the Coyotes attendance up to middling levels.

Nik I’ll let you know about your joint pain but it’s going to have to be in private.  Have to keep that information on a knee to know basis

I just need to be in good enough shape to play 1st line minutes for the Sabres.

I some point you have to think the NHL just gets the picture. The Coyotes have been there for almost a quarter of a century. Hockey doesn't seem to work there. It's a successful league otherwise. Why would they keep fighting for these headlines every 6 months.

Because Bettman?

I guess but Bettman doesn't seem like the overly sentimental type. When they didn't have a viable path forward in Atlanta the team left, pretty matter of fact. I know some people want to tie Bettman's tenure to the Coyotes in particular but I've never got the sense that was something he was particularly hung up on.

Teams have literally taken all mention of current players off their websites:

By the way, nobody anywhere is claiming that MLB is anything other than incredibly profitable and that franchise values are exploding.
