I didn't say that you needed university level English classes to have interesting discussions. Saying "all of our players are great, and anyone that doesn't agree with that are downers", doesn't create that kind of "debate".

Nobody should be ridiculed for their opinion, but at the same time, if you're going to call others downers (I don't mean you in particular, just an example) because they don't share the same opinion, then of course those posts are going to be more criticized than others.

Don't get distracted by the 'downers' point and lose the fact that is being shared here.  Recently it has been better but overall typically the mocking, belittling, etc has been pathetic over the last few years.

Being on this site for many, many years I can say that I have seen the community here lose some great posters in exchange for arrogant ones that try to nit pick every sentence or even words to create a counter point when someone is looking to share a basic thought.  Simple as that.

If you haven't noticed that when some hockey fans have tried to post some ideas they have... then good for you.  If you are saying it doesn't happen here then you are naive so brace yourself for when it does happen to you.

Not saying that at all. It's an internet forum, of course that's going to happen. You're right in saying there is occasionally some mocking, but at the same time, there are also some well thought out posts that are brushed off as being pessimistic. It goes both ways.

If I post an opinion that's probably unrealistic, I'm not going to be surprised when there are a few snarky replies.

Just so I don't derail the thread too much, I would generally lean towards taking a slightly more patient approach and letting the team develop at it's own pace. It allows the team to have more cap flexibility in a few years when you're hoping to be a contending team. By then, you have a better idea of the teams needs based on the core that you are trying to build now.

Group A: Our Position is right!
Group B: Actually, your position is wrong.
Group A: What? How dare you say our position is wrong, you idiot! We're right we're right we're right! It doesn't matter what you say, we're right!
Group B: Actually, if you look at the facts of the matter you're wrong.
Group A: *looks* Who cares about being right anyway! It's not about being right! It's just about opinions! Why do you have to be so mean?

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Yeah. That's whats going on in your mind I'm sure. Lol. Never admit your wrong and slap down those who even remotely challenge your position, or posters who you deem to be wrong or stupid.

That exactly!!!!.  bye for now ... I don't come here for this kind of crap. I will be eyes on but fingers quiet for a bit.

Thanks for the great post RedLeaf.. you said it just right.

Yes he did!!!!  This site has lost sooo many great posters because of him.  Too bad....

I disagree... As someone that has come to these forums for years for intelligent and informative discussion about the Leafs, I feel Nik's posts consistently provide that. What's not appealing is posters being called "downers" because they discuss a more realistic outlook on the team.

But this is a hockey site, not a university level debating form.  Many fans and even players lack debating, spelling and especially grammar skills.  Does this mean they should be ridiculed and made feel like idiots for simply voicing an opinion?  I think not!!!   Didn't used to like this....used to be fun.

I realize it's in response to Allaire criticizing the Leaf coaching staff, but does Burke HAVE to insult the guy in response? To the media? I guess it wouldn't be Brian if he didn't.

Did Allaire have to go to the media to tak shots at the organization he chose to leave? He could have just said something along the lines of "It hasn't worked out here, and it's time to move on", if he really wanted to speak to the media, but decides to take shots at the Leafs instead of talking to Burke about it in private.

As an aside, I thought the Jets would be one Canadian team I could cheer for second to the Leafs. Pfftt. That thought just died. What was up with the hostility of that crowd? It's like all the tickets were sold with a free flight in Ottawa.

Don't get me wrong, I know the fans were there for a good time and all, and I don't begrudge them that. But still, totally alienated from the Jets now.

I was fine with the crowd... until they called a penalty on Franson. I guess it's just home ice advantage.

For those that want Wilson fired and are hoping for some winning streak under some new coach, that's not guaranteed to happen. St. Louis is doing well after hiring Hitchcock, but what about other teams that fired coaches this season. Those coaching changes sure are working wonders in Anaheim, Washington, and Carolina...

Heard it might be: Franson, Kadri, 2012 first for Ryan and Parros

Where'd you hear that from... don't want to get excited...

I wouldn't - regardless of where it came from.

Even if an eventual trade is close to that, it wont happen for awhile yet.

Oh I know, I mean if that was an actual proposal, I would think Burke would take that, run, and never look back...

Boston won the cup last year with virtually no PP (horrific actually) but a great PK... I think there's a lesson there somewhere.

Yup, get a goalie with a .938 sv%.... Though their system has something to do with that as well.

Well, we did have a goalie with the 3rd best even-strength sv% in the league so my point remains actually. I mean, I'm not sure Reimer's short-handed sv% is completely all on his own shoulders. You just can't cough up the puck and and fair to clear the crease, etc. on the PK on a consistant basis. The PK I would argue is the primary reason we didn't make the playoff last year.

Yea well the sv% jab was more of a joke. As for Reimer, I'm not expecting he'll put up a sv% that high over the course of a full season, not that it's not possible since he did play quite a bit at the end of last season, but he's bound to go through cold stretches mid season, especially since it's his first full season.

I agree that the PK was a big reason we they missed the playoffs last year, but the PP wasn't much better. Also, someone mentioned in another thread that the secondary scoring was terrible last year and I think that will need to be improved just as much as the special teams, though if tonight was any indication, albeit 1 game, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Found it!

Nice find, I was looking through the Leafs TV schedule and couldn't find it. You'd think Leafs TV would at least show the games since they typically don't have anything else to show before the preseason.
