I feel if the Jays miss the playoffs, maybe blow it up.

The Dodgers also went winless in the playoffs last year. It's a crap shoot.

Wow.  Our guys are the best.  Neck guards for all, now!

To me, it wouldn't be a big deal if they just made everyone wear one now. Do they look awesome? Who knows, but if everyone had to wear one it wouldn't matter.

Quote from: Rob on February 12, 2024, 11:03:44 AMIf you watch the replay in slow-Mo (pun intended) you can see the principal point of contact is Greig's arm.  Greig raises his arm, directing Reilly's stick up and into his head.

This was mentioned up thread by another poster, I feel it needs to be reiterated because Rielly didn't skate over and give Greig a two hander over the head.

If you watch that clip in 0.25 super slo-Mo (again pun intended) it gives a good view.

The guys at 32 Thoughts give a pretty fair and clear headed take on this, and that's all that needs be said really.

Ha, I'm listening now and Elliotte says Rielly should have just punched him in the face too.

Intigator penalty with less than 5 minutes left in the game is an automatic 1 game suspension?

This team is a mess.

That wasn't a high stick by Bertuzzi. It was the Dallas' goalie's stick that hit the Dallas defence men up high.

Domi - Matthews - Nylander
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Marner
Knies - Holmberg - Robertson
Gregor - McMann - Reaves

And let the 3rd line play! They're young. They should have speed, energy. Let them show what they got. The team isn't winning playing the 3rd line 10 minutes a night. Maybe try something different.

(I could swap Marner and Nylander there)

Quote from: cabber24 on January 31, 2024, 02:52:12 PMStand pat, this team has not earned rentals this season.

To be honest, I would be happy if the Leafs sold at the deadline and started recalibrating now. Not a rebuild but concede being a "contender" this year. Trade assets would include Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, Jones, and Gio. Am I nuts?

Yes. 😂😅

I think if you have Matthews, Marner, Nylander in their primes, you have to go for it.

Do you have to add? Not necessarily. Do you sell off? Not if you're in a playoff position. Any team that makes the playoffs can win the Cup.

Now, do you sell Brodie and Gio? Definitely maybe. (More Brodie than Gio) But my idea of trading Brodie would be to bring in someone else to help the Leafs win with his cap space.

Any interest in Jordan Eberle for the 3rd line? Free agent after this year. back-to-back 20 goals seasons. Performed well in last year's playoffs. Doing ok this year. Seattle is currently outside of a playoff position.

Quote from: herman on January 31, 2024, 10:55:52 AMI would like to point to the discrepancy in TOI during the last three playoffs in particular. Marner/Matthews (425, 407 min) played 100+ min compared to Nylander (333 min), so of course their totals would be higher. It's only a touch higher. Much of Marner's is PK time, as his and Nylander's even strength differential is 20 min, as is their PP diff, which reflects that silly wonderful time when Nylander was not on PP1).

For sure. And again not to excuse any players own performance but some of this falls on Keefe as well for consistently refusing to try something other than having Matthews and Marner stapled together come playoff time and making it incredibly easy for the opposing coach to play the match-up game.

The go-to solution is adding Tavares to the line (or lately, Nylander).

Part of Marner's ineffectiveness probably stems from him being played like 1RD in terms of minutes. Top 6 in minutes for the past 3 playoff seasons:
Marner 425.52
Rielly 423.46
Brodie 416.12
Matthews 407.36
Tavares 336.04
Nylander 333.55

Marner's ice time is pretty crazy.
