Always fun to see the Leafs win after getting jobbed by the stripes.

Rules should also try to minimize people having to make judgement calls on intention. Just call every penalty with less than 2 min remaining in OT as an auto penalty shot. Avoids more shootouts. Refs will stow their whistles anyway on most contact plays but delay of game infractions and bench minors are pretty cut and dry.

Another grievance

You can pause that video and then click through it

Rempe's head and body start upward considerably before he made contact - showing that he was sort of jumping into the hit - moving upwards - that the hit didn't exclusively make him go up because he was already moving upwards  before he made contact
Both skates look off the ice before he made contact
Unlike Rielly's crosscheck, he injured Lyubushkin

Where were the refs and where is the league discipline on this?

It's the Leafs so they don't care.

What an unbelievable save by Sammy:

I thought the Leafs were the better team last night. I hope Lyubushkin is ok. How that hit wasn't called a charging penalty is beyond me.

Enjoyed the shootout last night. ;)

Does anyone think the Leafs should be interested in someone like Travis Hamonic? Right shot, veteran, signed for one more year at $1.1m after this season.

Quote from: cabber24 on March 01, 2024, 09:12:48 AMThe salary retention part throws me off. What does Trev think he can get in this market?

I thought the retention originally meant that Treliving had another move planned, but it could also just have been done to prevent having to risk anyone on waivers soon. As things stand once the trade deadline passes and roster limts go away the Leafs could eventually get up to a 25-man roster that still has all of Jones, Gregor, Lagesson, and Timmins on it with about $150k in cap space to spare.

I think that's possible but you have to think there's probably some kind of forward pickup, no?

I don't think the Leafs need a single forward.

Quote from: Frank E on February 28, 2024, 04:04:16 PMDetroit is only a couple of points back of the Leafs with the Leafs with one game in hand...but DET has ROW of 31 vs. TOR 29.  DET moving ahead of TOR pushes the Leafs into a wilcard spot.

Even after a 7 game winning streak.

Parity.

In the Leafs defence, they have played rather poorly a lot and made several questionable roster moves.

Quote from: Arn on February 28, 2024, 03:46:14 PMI don't mind OT. So I guess I'd prefer a result. I'd even accept a 10 minute OT or something. But I prefer a tie after OT to a shootout.

10 minute OT. Let's do it!!!

Quote from: Dappleganger on February 28, 2024, 02:46:12 PMNo, no, no. Don't you guys do that. If anyone remembers the NHL with the old 5-on-5 overtime/no loser point, you'll recall the with about 5 minutes left in a tie game both teams would essentially stop playing trying to secure the single point. Too often the overtime would be both teams trying not to get scored on. It was a problem and the NHL was right to make a change to try to correct it.

Now, the changes they made do I agree with? Not exactly, but the game had a problem.

The NHL PR spin of "people don't like ties" was just cuz they didn't want to say, "cuz teams stop playing".

You mean when there were ties and the loser point I think right? With no loser point, losing with 1 min left in the third and losing with 1 min left in OT are the same. Maybe they stop playing late in OT though.

I like ties, I don't like loser points.

No, when games ended in ties and teams divided the two points, one each.

Teams wanted to secure a point rather than risking no points at all. You'd see it often between out of conference opponents where they were happy to secure the point and move on. They added the loser point to encourage more play and went even further with the shootout/3-on-3.

Loser point should have been dropped with the introduction of the shootout but, alas, here we are.

Maybe Treliving should trade for a right-shot D.

I hope this was a VERY deep league for you to have kept him until this point, but hopefully he finally keeps paying off.

Yes, pretty deep league. 16 teams with full rosters so he'd probably be rostered by somebody.

I kinda got bored this year. I drafted Matthews and Nylander 1-2, and drafted Bertuzzi and Knies later on. Since then I managed to trade for Marner and Tavares and I picked Domi, Liljegren, Benoit, and Samsonov off waivers. 😅
