Clarkson for Horton that we were discussing the other day was another like this too.
I loved that trade. Crazy that Clarkson played only 26 more NHL games than Horton did (with zero) after the trade, and we all knew that Horton was done at the time of the trade.

I guess. Seems like an easy out for Montreal on Weber's contract.

Weber is only owed 3M this year and then 1M per year for 3 more years. Vegas needs the space, they tried to dump Dadonov at the deadline too.

Right, so Vegas traded away 5 mill in cap dollars for an extra 1 million in real cash and a bunch of LITR money. So they prefer the challenges of LITR for 4 years to the 5 million on the books this year. I didn't realize he was owed so little in real money.

Dadonov's actually salary for next season is $6.5mil. And there's been some conflicting info about this but it seems like Weber's contract is insured so Vegas won't actually be paying the full amount of his salary.

Also while 4 years of LTIR troubles would stink, don't be surprised if Weber's contract is moved again at some point in the next year or two (hello, Arizona).

The Leafs can pick up Myers after said buyout if he is amenable

Wait, what? I get moving McDonagh but I'm pretty shocked they couldn't get more for him.

Not without retaining salary, which they clearly did not want to do.

With the term left on his deal and his only okay production over the last couple seasons, this is probably fair-ish value to move the entire contract.

Just saw that he had a full NTC, so if he basically came down to Nashville or nobody it makes more sense to me. Because McDonagh, even at 33 years old, is still a very good defenceman. He played 22+ minutes a night on one of the best teams in the league in the regular season and playoffs and put up solid results. If he was a free agent right now I think he's get right around what's currently left on his deal on the open market.

It'll be curious how much this impacts Tampa. One of their biggest strengths the past 3 seasons was being able to have one of Hedman, McDonagh, and Sergachev on the ice at all times as they carried a weaker partner. If they don't get somebody else to jump into that top-3 spot that'll be a big loss to their defence group.

Neither his possession stats or his offensive numbers have been particularly good the last couple years. I wouldn't sign him to that deal. His reputation is outpacing his actual performance.

Fair, but his microstats still paint a picture of him being a very effective defender. And it's not as if a large chunk of NHL GMs aren't still paying/valuing players based off their reputation. If it wasn't for the full NTC he would have gotten something decent in return.
