Quote from: OrangeBlack on March 24, 2023, 10:14:04 AMIn regards to Pride Night, I think it's important to respect the fact that players shouldn't be forced to wear the jersey if they have strong religious beliefs.   We shouldn't judge the validity of their beliefs. Religion is a personal thing, & the strength & type of worship/beliefs vary from person to person.

Hockey players as a whole are the most down to earth, real people out of the 4 major sports.  That should be embraced, whether you agree or disagree with them.

That might be fair if they applied that standard to all of their religion's teachings - like, for instance, prohibitions on gambling - and not selectively.

Also, whatever happened to "love thy neighbor", "do unto others", and "love the sinner, hate the sin"? You know, the most important teachings of basically every major religion.
Quote from: Guilt Trip on March 23, 2023, 04:11:50 PMDef not ideal but Carolina has carried 3 all year. Chances are Murray will be going to be Robidas Island at some point next season.

Carolina's 3rd goalie spent large chunks of the season in the AHL when Andersen and Raanta were both healthy. He's only up now because Raanta is hurt again. They've only carried 3 healthy goalies for short stretches.

Quote from: CarltonTheBear on March 21, 2023, 11:27:29 AMPop quiz: Who has more points in 2023?

a) Mason Marchment
b) Denis Malgin

Who could ever have thought that a guy who seemed like a marginal NHLer suddenly becoming a near point per game player (and outpacing his production from a single season at any other professional level) might not be sustainable?

Quote from: herman on March 21, 2023, 12:38:48 PMFights after clean hits are silly looking from where I'm sitting, but I do think it's a lot harder to tell when you're on the ice and focused on the play, and suddenly the crowd stirs and you see your teammate laid out. The result of a clean hit and a bad hit are generally going to look about the same in that second or two of recognizance.

Fights after a hit (and in general) are pretty useless, regardless. The damage has already been done, and we have decades of history showing the fighting is not effective as a deterrent for bad hits. All you're really doing is robbing your team of your services for at least 5 minutes of game time plus putting yourself at risk for an injury. I understand the desire to stand up for a teammate, but you can do that without dropping the gloves and effectively punishing your team more than the other side.

The officials and the DoPS should be doling out the punishment here - though, with this league, that's not going to work, either.

Quote from: herman on March 20, 2023, 08:18:42 AMCostco got it right. People love small samples.

I don't think he's anywhere near as good offensively as he showed in his first 4 games with Washington, just like I don't think he's anywhere near as bad defensively as he was in his next 4 games. But wow that a wild split there. 20% on-ice shooting percentage in his first 4 games, 80% on-ice save percentage in his next 4 games. How does that happen?

Sometimes, regression comes at you fast.

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on March 18, 2023, 12:29:56 PMIsn't this a road game?

Doesn't say @ Leafs for a reason!

Formatting it like this saves a bit of time.

Also, let's be honest, Ottawa is a home crowd for the Leafs.
Quote from: herman on March 17, 2023, 10:32:17 AMOne wonders what interesting and anti-miraculous way Matt Murray might injure himself during the warmups in Ottawa next game.

Banana peel?

Quote from: Bill_Berg_is_sad on March 15, 2023, 08:27:26 PMPenalty or not. I hate this stupid rule.

I like it fine. The last thing I want to see is defenceman throwing the puck over the glass as a tactic.

I would like to see it in a different class of penalty though, where it's a 1M instead of 2.

It should be treated the same as icing. Face off in your end, no timeout, no line change.

Putting it over intentionally was already a penalty. Penalizing it accidentally was and still is unnecessary.
Quote from: L K on March 15, 2023, 08:29:12 AM24 minutes against Colorado aren't going to get it done.  I hope they put in a better effort tonight.  It's crazy to me that Colorado has 80 points with all the injuries they have dealt with this year.

The Leafs play to the level of their opponents. Colorado is good, so the Leafs should be good.

Quote from: herman on March 15, 2023, 09:03:12 AMGoing pro; look for an ATO with the Marlies shortly.

The press release already confirms he's joining the Marlies on a PTO.

Wait we're supposed to read past the headline/tweet?

Only if you want the real story.
Quote from: Frank E on March 13, 2023, 08:17:26 AMHow the F is Luke Schenn 33 years old?

Time makes fools of us all.
Nice dive by RNH on that one. Olympic quality.
4 minutes for getting punched? That's a new one.
Quote from: cw on March 10, 2023, 02:00:49 PMHe's currently enjoying more ice time with Carlson being out. He'll come back to earth some when Carlson returns.
When the dust settles, I think he'll be a decent top 4 at ES & PP and not much PK.
Next year, at $1.4 mil, he'll be one of the better cap values in the NHL along with Liljegren.
If he stays healthy, he'll have a good NHL career.

Yeah. I think he'll end up being a pretty standard 2nd pairing guy - which is good for him, but nothing to really cry over losing. There's a good number of those types around the league and they move around pretty frequently.

He's like a Paul Martin or a JM Liles - a good piece to have around, but not really a game changer.
