I think Grebyonkin has the ability to become a key part of our team.  He has the size and uses it, has great hands and good speed. Goes to the dirty areas.  Lots of upside.

Quote from: bustaheims on April 28, 2024, 03:54:39 PMA less 'accomplished' coach with NHL experience is the way to go. The list of coaches who have won the cup with multiple teams is incredibly short - there's 3 of them, and only one outside the original 6 era.

No rookies, but no one who's high profile, either. That's the way to go.

Aren't you literally describing Keefe?

I'm not for or against firing, I'm just confused by the criteria you've posted.

No. Keefe was a rookie coach.

I get that. I guess what I mean is you're describing what Keefe is right now.

Maybe. And it wouldn't shock me to see Keefe have more success if he lands another head coaching opportunity. It's not unusual for coaches to need to go through a team or two before they get it right.

Keefe will get snapped up because of his regular season record.  Maybe he can convert to Mormonism while he's in Salt Lake.

Which I just drove through yesterday, FWIW.  It's not a very big city, even if you include all the necklace of suburbs that stretch north and south.
I have driven through Salt Lake multiple times. One of the worst driving experiences. Now I only will drive through on a Sunday when they are all in church.

That's too bad. Went to the game on Friday when they won in OT...great game.
We just lost at least 3 games of playoff hockey that would have benefited the prospects to a very great extent

Quote from: Bill_Berg_is_pissed_off on April 28, 2024, 05:25:58 PMMarner for a stud D is my preference. I'm not a Marner hater, he's just the most realistic guy to trade of the four, and I want them to move money from the forwards to the blue line.
Who's that D man you think would be available?
Not sure, if no one is available then at least 2 1st's and a very good prospect or player
Main thing is to open up the cap space so we have the resources to settle affairs with all the five families.

We have a Goalie tandem. Woll/Hildeby
With Jones or Murray as back up.
If Marner goes it's for some high draft picks and a stud D man.

I could live with that choice.  Just don't want another retreaded coach who is now on team 5.  No Boudreau!
I didn't know that!

The Leafs would be Quenneville's 5th team, dude. He would be exactly the type of retread you're talking about.

I'd give John Herdman a chance, a success wherever he does! If Gruden can get the Marlies a win today perhaps he comes up for consideration.

Anyone know where the Marlies can be seen today. I am in BC so probably will need a free link to watch on the Compute

I'm not against firing Keefe at this point. Not sure which candidate could replace him. If Gruden can get the Marlies to win today, he will have an MLSE team win a series. I think Keefe made a serious mistake in playing Samsanov.  To many weak goals.  Also we need a new D. I hope some of these big men work out.
I am an long advocate for trading Marner (if we can get him to waive) and then we can plug and play Cowan next year. May even end up being an upgrade.  More of a North South guy.

Also we should know what Matthews is battling, hasn't been the same player since Game 2.

Thanks Bob, RIP and call some games from the silvery gates.

Quote from: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/reason-for-william-nylanders-playoff-absence-hard-to-pin-down/According to multiple sources, William Nylander's absence from the Toronto lineup has to do with a migraine so severe that team doctors tested to see if he suffered a concussion. One of the reasons for the secrecy around his situation is that an actual diagnosis has been hard to come by, whether it is a migraine, a concussion or something else that could affect that area.

That secrecy led to wild speculation — even by Toronto standards — as to why Nylander missed the first three games of the Boston series. It's believed Nylander first indicated an issue Thursday, the day after the Maple Leafs ended their regular season in Tampa Bay. He played all 82 games in 2023-24.

In September 2022, Nylander told reporters he switched to a tinted visor because of migraines he'd suffered the previous season.
This is a real concern, I hope he has had brain cat scans to make sure there is no leakage.

Lets bring him over and plug him into the Marlies squad asap. This is one player I want them to develop correctly.

Quote from: bustaheims on April 24, 2024, 05:43:26 AMSure. The upgrade will likely have to come via trade, but going into the season with a Woll/Murray tandem doesn't feel like a recipe for success.

If Hildeby continued his domination in the AHL, maybe they go into next season with that trio with the expectation that Hildeby is NHL ready and can jump in if Murray falters. But that didn't quite happen unfortunately so you can't really place that expectation on him.

UFA goalie market is definitely thin. RFA candidates who might not get qualified also don't see particularly interesting. But a team trying to be a Stanley Cup contender just isn't going to go into next season with Woll and a Matt Murray who didn't play a single game in 23/24. Saving cap space isn't that big of a deal if you miss the playoffs, just ask the Devils.
What if we have Woll/Hildeby and keep Jones around again, as insurance?
