Canada was up against Austria 6-1 and uh... let it get to overtime. But good thing captain clutch was there.

Trade Value!!!

They've scored 2 or fewer in 13 of last 14 playoff games.

They need to shed Marner and ideally Tavares salary and become a deeper more well rounded team.

It's clear they core 4/5 concept is flawed with these specific players, the mix isn't right when it gets to crunch time.

3 years of Cowan and Minten on ELC's will be very helpful.

They need to shed some of the bottom of the lineup guys and make room for younger players with a higher ceiling and allow them the runway to develop towards that ceiling.

I'd be fine going with Woll, Hildeby and a veteran next season.

There is at least $25 million coming off the cap this summer from expiring contracts alone, shift Marner and that gives Treliving a lot of room to work.

If Keefe or Samsonov are there next season, I won't be watching.

Pretty sure I had a major cardiac event in the 3rd.

If Cuthbert and Simpson could stop arse licking the Bruins, that'd be great.

I thought they looked better without Reaves last game and I know he hasn't been great, but I think there is an argument to be made for him in this game.

With that crowd revved up, you know that gorilla Marroon and his friends are going to be running around.

Maybe give Robertson a rest?

Haha someone gave Knies the nickname Brick as well (Knies doesn't want to explain it, and doesn't want it to stick).

It's either shithouse or the moron from Anchorman.

The segment here from Steve Valiquette before game 5 is excellent. It covers goaltending and specifically the differences between Samsonov and Woll.

Starts at around 49:30 if you need to skip to it.

Thanks for posting this! I'm glad he remarked on the start splits, with Sammy getting the easys and Woll facing the Boston/Tampa etc games. I don't know what the plan was behind that but it was clearly a choice. (Give Sammy confidence? Stress test Woll for playoff prep?)

No problem, it was clearly better than the usual analysis you see, especially on goalies.

As for why the start splits, I think likely a mix of both your suggestions.

I was so checked out after game 4.

They deserve a lot if credit for even getting it to 7.

It'll only matter if they win though.

Knies
Woll
Nylander
McCabe
Lybushkin
Benoit
Edmundson

All excellent these past two games.

You add Cowan and Minten to this group and you've got something cooking at forward.

Quote from: cw on May 02, 2024, 11:10:42 PMThey changed a bunch of the skaters for the PK at the deadline ... and it got worse. The goalie is the #1 PKer.

Samsonov's time appears done.
Hopefully, Woll can stay healthy

That Valiquette clip is excellent, he's the best goalie analyst on any of the networks. The Leafs should offer him a blank cheque to join the coaching staff.

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on May 01, 2024, 11:25:10 AMThe answer is:  Sheldon Keefe.

If they complete the comeback.
I was completely premature on starting this thread, but frustration took over, especially with the way they were playing and I am a huge Woll fan over Sammy. I hope we can pull of the comeback as I am a Keefe fan for the most part.

I don't know if a comeback in this round is enough. I think they need to go on a real run for that to happen. At the very least, they need to get past Florida, and that's a tall order.

Would you take Coop or Rod?

I would love Cooper, I think he's the sharpest coach in the league.

I only saw part of it at the end but I'm going to guess Woll was the better choice all along.
Anyone remember hearing that the Leafs PK was something like 81% with Woll in net and 73% with anyone not named Woll?
Love Sammy the person, not the goalie.

I mean that's the conclusion yes. It's not the usual narrative tripe though. He comes with receipts, breakdowns on different types of saves etc made by each goalie.

Quote from: WhatIfGodWasALeaf on April 27, 2024, 12:02:17 PMHave all the geezers deferred to Mark Masters? Seems like he's asking 75%+ of the questions in a lot of scrums.

As they should. He's better than all of them

I have no bias.

Yeah, he has NO compromising pictures of you, no siree.
