Quote from: Frank E on May 15, 2024, 05:55:12 PMI like the idea of getting some cheap bluey chip prospects that are already contributing, with a solid goalie, and looking at 24-25 as a reset of sorts?

And if it all goes well, load up a little at the deadline, and if not, offload.

And another thing...I'm not sold with Rielly as your horse on the blueline.

And another thing...if Bert and Domi want to come back, are we good with that?

Domi showed some strong chemistry with Matthews. I'd like to have him back.

The Bertuzzi that showed up for the last couple months of the season? I'd have him back in a heartbeat. The full package? I'd be open to it, if he's willing to sign for less than he earned this past season. He fit pretty well with Matthews and Domi in the end. If he goes, though, what did provide shouldn't be that difficult to replace.

that's where I am too.. Domi showed passing skill that might make a loss of Marner less impactful to Matthews..and the snot of course..

Quote from: herman on March 19, 2024, 10:15:11 AMWe'll see come the end of the playoffs, but it's make or break for the Sheldon Keefe style of Leafs. Great regular season results, and then a pretty substantial drop off in the playoffs when the other team can isolate and pick apart this largely finesse-focused system. Mitch Marner is emblematic of this team's style and the team results are generally in lockstep with his production.

The players added in the offseason, with the playoffs in mind, struggled to adapt. I don't know that there is much purpose to a top-heavy finesse-style if all it does is guarantee a playoff berth and crazy production numbers and resultant cap hits for your top skill guys only to get rolled in the playoffs.

This is where Tampa and Vegas and Florida have sort of lapped the field (in addition to their cap friendly tax and occasional LTIR situations): they are fasstholes the whole time. Fortunately, it looks like Treliving recognizes this and is looking to build it into the roster around the existing stars. It might not be in their current nature, but I think they have it in them.

nailed it Herman..

is it a possibility Klingberg comes back for the playoffs?

maybe a good time for Treliving to swing a Dman deal...

Quote from: caveman on February 06, 2024, 12:48:43 PMIs a coaching change coming? ... Keefe has made some pointed comments about the team and some of the responsibility must fall on him..

Why would that mean anything? He's said similar statements before.

My impression is that he has reacted more strongly this year than in the past... and that may be a sign doesn't have the solutions to the problems..

on Kyper and Bourne yesterday i caught part of a conversation about the possibility that Tavares is injured.. and talk about him going on LTIR.. I think the source was Brad May.. but I didn't hear it all clearly.. has anyone heard similar talk?

Quote from: Joe on January 21, 2024, 10:38:46 AMI know we say this every samsonov start but if there was ever a game for him to stand on his head and take back control of the net this is it.

I don't see it happening, but one can hope.

Samsonov really took off when Murray faltered last year.. like it was up to him to carry the team.. with Woll out and Jones having some issues maybe Sammy will get the Eye of the Tiger...

Quote from: Highlander on January 19, 2024, 01:06:02 PMI don't want Keefe fired.  Seems we are one Woll away from a fix. Lets hope so anyway. Also need a stud defenseman.  Time to limit Gio and Brodie or give them more days off.

I don't see Woll as the solution. Tbh Jones has provided at least league average goaltending, which should be good enough for this team. Goaltending right now is the least of our problems considering he's 7th in league save percentage.
Jones has provided the goaltending we need to get by. The Leafs need at least one D man to move Brodie down.

agreed.. if they can pick up a top D man for Reilly... then Brodie should move down.. the SN panel opined the other night that Toronto has 1 number 2 Dman.. 2 number 4s.. and 3 number 7s...

I love it... calling out the media BS..instead of the washed out answers that team reps prepare for reporters.. Torts is the best...

Samsonov cleared waivers ... can they send him back down without waivers again?

I hope they keep Holmberg in the line up when Gregor is healthy... McMann could sit..

Quote from: Zee on January 08, 2024, 02:00:41 PMWilly played himself into this contract but the real question is how do the Leafs manage to have 4 guys in the top 10 in league salary where no other team has more than 1 guy?  Are other markets better at convincing players to take a bit less?  It's difficult to fill out a good roster when half the cap is tied up in 4 guys.

Canadian taxes must play into this to a degree...
