I'm asking this genuinely. Can anyone give an example of a player, after 7 years in the NHL made the transition to a full time centre after never playing that position with any regularity?

I am not super thrilled either. I don't understand trying to win championships in Toronto (Jays and Leafs) with rookie coaches?

How is a coach who's been here for 4 years a rookie?

I've been around this forum since the Quinn days, and have been around every leafs coach since Doug Carpenter. There has never, once, been a coach where I've seen the fanbase happy with. Yes I know someone is going to say Burns, but after the 2 magical runs the call in shows and media were souring in him.

So maybe you don't like this but I guarantee whoever is the next coach, you'll find reason not to like them either.

One thing that stands out beween the 2 and I'll take that over talent which is debatable and that's heart and Mackinnon has more of it. Can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have that heart, determination, will to do whatever to win then skill doesn't mean s**t. That's what guys like McDavid and Mackinnon have and for every shift for the most part. Matthews in my opinion doesn't especially when it matters most.

Waive Reaves or Timmins. Doesn't anyone think both wouldn't clear? If you take Timmins you HAVE to play him (or press box him) and who in their right mind would want to pick up 3 years of Reaves?

If Treliving thought 'we'll give Reaves 3 years so no one will claim him on waivers.' Kudos.

You can't waive a guy you just signed as a UFA before he plays a single minute for the team.

Maybe I'm dense because I never seem to quite understand how LTIR works, but isn't that the best option for the leafs? That way they don't have to worry about sweeteners and so on in a trade? And don't have to worry about the cap implications of a buy out?

He only has a year left on his contract. So at worst it's 1 season of LTIR.

That's plausible thinking but I am wondering why Samsonov would feel like he owes the Leafs a favor because Dubas signed Murray to a crappy contract.
