Non-Hockey Chatter / Re: Official Music Thread

Hi all. I have a 12 year old nephew who's taking guitar lessons. I'm doing my Xmas shopping early and want to get him something economical for tuning. He's just using an acoustic guitar for now.

Do you know if something like this digital tuner would work?
(browse incognito or you'll get spammed with Aliexpress ads until the end of time)

Do you have something else I could consider? (economical) I should add: I know nothing of instruments.

For an acoustic guitar, Snark tuners I think are the best bang for the buck:

If it's an electric acoustic, maybe consider the Boss chromatic tuner (I still use a TU-2 to this day onstage), but for an acoustic only, the snark is great!

That's for all people, including those who are ineligble for the shot (i.e: children under 12)

If you hit the button that says "eligible" near the top, it'll show you the percentage of everyone 12+ who has received the shot! (85% and 79%, respectively!)

So I don't want to get into anything partisan here or engage in electioneering but I have to say I'm fairly frustrated right now. I've had my ballot to vote by mail for a week now and for the first time in my life I'm really not sure who to vote for or if I'll be voting at all. For every other election it's been easy for me. Because I'm not a member of any party I read platforms, decide which one fits my particular views to best(which, to date, has always been the NDP) and vote for them.

But this year I'm struggling with it. I'm still most on board with the NDP platform but I really dislike the way Singh has campaigned and, just personally, I have a tough time voting for a party that's finding anti-semitic candidates left and right. Throw in the fact that I live in a iron-clad safe LPC riding so even in the best of years I'm voting for a no-hope candidate which makes holding my nose and voting NDP again seem almost comically useless.

I'd never vote for a right wing party, which to my mind includes both parties with realistic chances of forming government, I actively dislike the Greens and the only other choice in my riding are the Communists and I don't think I'm quite at that stage in my intellectual devolution.

I don't know...I think I may just write in Tommy Douglas.

I was in the exact same boat - Nearly lifelong NDP voter, but Singh absolutely *bombed* at the debates.  Even though my riding (Davenport) is a "contested" riding between Liberals and NDP, I ended up voting for the Green.  I liked the local candidate a lot, and although Annamie Paul started off the debate slow, she really won me over by the end.

Someone asked the question in the meeting and it wasn't really answered, but they're basically asking front of house people to also become bouncers, which I can't imagine is going to work out well.

I hope they're all getting pay raises to deal with what they're inevitably going to face.

Arizona is apparently shopping Christian Dvorak, who is making a reasonable $4.45 mil.  I wonder if the cost to acquire him would be even more than a 1st and a 3rd, though?

But is 24-48 hrs even good enough? Couldn’t you have caught it on the way to the venue and not know yet? A lot can happen in a day or 2.

I would think only rapid tests would be worthwhile in those scenarios.

My understanding is while the Delta variant does have a quicker incubation period than COVID classic, it's still minimum 2-3 days before someone can pass the viral load.  24-48 hours *should* be fine.

Does anyone if you can get help for ADHD without extended coverage. My psychiatrist keeps telling me it’s unnecessary to speak to someone else who specializes in ADHD and he just keeps prescribing me Adderal and a different depression med every 6 or 8 months. But no help on actually overcoming or controlling the ADHD. He keeps
Saying your productive enough let’s focus on the depression. I feel trapped.

Have you asked to be referred to a therapist? My good friend sees a therapist every month and it's been helpful. She has other issues as well (complex PTSD), so maybe that's why?

My friend who has pretty severe ADHD, highly recommends the ADHD Rewired course and group coaching. It's $1500 though. She says the support and understanding from the community is the best part (which is free I believe). Also highly recommends reading "The One Thing" which is actually required reading for the course.

I saw a therapist for a year and have been discharged. Now trying to get back in is almost impossible. You essentially have to claim you're suicidal to get in.

I have to echo BF - literally as I just finished my appointment with my therapist 10 minutes ago (for minor stuff - a lot dealing with self confidence and vulnerability/lack thereof), but I always feel good coming out of a session.  You know what you need best, so even if your psychiatrist doesn't think it's necessary, if you want to try it out then I think it's still definitely worth trying out.  The lack of public options is not great here in Ontario, but like herman said - most benefit packages will include stuff for Psychotherapy and or a Master of Social Work, and mine in particular didn't even need a referral from a doctor.  Definitely worth looking into and recommended!

Apparently Blackhawk fans really liked him and wondered why he wasn't qualified:

Health is a concern, but otherwise - don't hate it!

Would Clarke MacArthur fall under that category?

Was a 35 point player, Atlanta walked away from his arbitration award, and he came to Toronto and put up 62 points in his first season.

This is also considering he missed a full rookie season because of the 2004-05 lockout, the partial season because of the 2012-13 lockout, and a pandemic year this year.  It's impressive.

Still - a 5 year contract for a 35 year old.  :o

*ears perk up*

For the record, as someone who knows people who are victims of revenge porn (which essentially what this is), this is absolutely sexual abuse.  Just because there's no physical harm that came to the victim, doesn't mean there isn't emotional trauma.  It's exactly how death threats are still considered a crime - the assailants can't hide behind "yes, I did threaten to kill them, but I didn't actually cause any *physical* harm, so no foul, right?"

That said, I'm a firm believer in the "no one deserves a second chance, they have to be earned."  People who have done their rehabilitation and jail time have earned their second chances.  My issue is, this kid *did* want to go about it the right away.  He asked not to be drafted, he would go back to junior, try and build up some good will - maybe through community involvement or theraphy, and be drafted once he's done so.  Bergevin robbed him of his opportunity to do it the right way.

Part of me wonders after listening to the Steve Dangle podcast that if Bergevin knows the axe is coming for him because of his involvement in the Chicago situation, and because of it he's just said "screw it" and is doing what he wants, consequences be damned.
