Quote from: CarltonTheBear on Yesterday at 01:58:57 PMSamsonov is projected to start tonight, Jones tomorrow against Vegas.

I can't remember where I read it, but wasn't that always the Leafs' thing to go for the win on the first night of B2B?  Second game be damned?

That defense corps...just like we drew it up in training camp.

I might also add that this is likely the most expensive vacation of Rielly's life...and the lousiest.

Quote from: bustaheims on February 20, 2024, 04:07:32 PMThe most Bettman was ever going to do was knock one game off the suspension, so, him upholding the whole thing really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. He very rarely makes any changes to supplemental discipline decisions.

I agree. Chiseling a game off was a long shot.
The leak of the decision might have been a little more compelling grievance than anything to do with the incident itself (and that was not that big of an issue).
The team going 4-0 took a bunch of whatever sting there was away for me.
Hopefully, they keep playing well so they don't mortgage too much of the future at the deadline.

He needed a break anyways...it all worked out for the best.  NHL teams can't complain about the Leafs, Rielly gets a break, the Leafs prop up values of some players, Bettman looks like less of a MLSE patsy...the refs don't have to take any heat about it and probably like that they got DOPS screwed, and Ottawa still super sucks.  All is good.

I think there are politics at play here with all the "Toronto gets preferrential treatment in the league", so I think the fact that the Leafs went 4-0 and with only 1 more game to go, it was an easy call for Bettman to keep the course and show the rest of the league that Toronto receives totally ridiculous supplemental discipline just like the rest of them.

Anyone really surprised at this point?  Bettman taking his sweet ass time to do nothing.

Quote from: Goaliedave31 on February 17, 2024, 02:20:25 PMThis has all the makings of another loss to a bottom feeder. No JT, Rielly or Gio. Jones in net. Hope I'm wrong

I'm saying 6-5 Leafs.

McTavish's development coming along nicely...15g - 33 pts in 45 games with another year to go on his ELC.

Sure be nice to have a few guys contributing like this on ELC's for another couple of years.

General NHL News & Views / Re: 2023-24 NHL Thread

So Timo Meier, he of the 8 year $8.8m AAV deal signed this past summer, is sitting at 10g - 21 pts in 39 games this season...but also a team worst minus 23.

So, not a great start.

But also, given the Kek news in CLB, both Fantilli and Gaudreau are minus 21 in 49 and 52 games respectively...now I know that CLB is 4th worst in the league in a minus 41 goal differential, but still...

Here's your worst 5 NHL teams in goal differential:

SJS - minus 93 (!!!!)
CHI - minus 76
ANA - minus 48
CLB - minus 41
WSH & MTL - minus 37

Leafs are 13th goodest at +17

Toronto Blue Jays / Re: 2024 Blue Jays

Just sitting here at Sportsnet Grill in Skydome...there's only 7 weeks until their first game here, but this field sure doesn't look like it's going to be good to go in 7 weeks.  According to the schedule, they don't play here until April 8th as they have scheduled their first 10 games on the road to start the season.

I love you guys...not really.

Wow.  Our guys are the best.  Neck guards for all, now!

To me, it wouldn't be a big deal if they just made everyone wear one now. Do they look awesome? Who knows, but if everyone had to wear one it wouldn't matter.

When I played hockey even as late as my early teens we had to wear neck guards...not for blades so much, more for sticks and pucks.

They were hot and itchy so I'd guess that's why players are resisting them...branding marketing opportunity NHL!

Quote from: herman on February 13, 2024, 06:51:51 PMTrevor Moore, Mason Marchment, Justin Holl, Kasperi Kapanen, Zach Hyman, Timothy Liljegren all developed under Keefe with the Marlies. Liljegren and Kapanen were the only 1st rdrs.

Let's leave Holl and Kapanen out of this for obvious reasons...and honestly I don't think they've done shit with Liljegren's skillset.

Moore, Marchment, and Hyman each went to teams where they've flourished and developed into great players.  They were not those players when they left the Leafs.
