Dion was a healthy scratch in the Kings last game.He understandably wasn’t too pleased with that and spoke with both Desjardins (the coach) as well as the GM Blake. The Athletic has a good article about this .IMO, thank heavens the Leafs traded him without retaining any salary.
Apparently Phaneuf has officially retired, what with his contract being done and all.
The same will happen to Weber - I don’t think he’s ever playing again and I think he’s under contract until ‘26.
Yeah, apparently they'll be honouring him before tonight's game. Which is fine. I don't have any specific bad thoughts for him or anything but it's hard to separate him from a lot of the crap that went on during his time here. He was always wildly overrated by some people and he's kind of a symbol of Burke's lousy team building to begin with and to be entirely honest if you asked me to name all of the Leafs' captains I'll probably forget him in five years but, you know, good job by you Dion. You certainly did your best.

With Dion Phaneuf’s retirement, figured I would re-share this part of a column I wrote about his time in Ottawa a couple of years ago. Dion was really a class act when he was in our city. pic.twitter.com/3u4ScGMjqu— Ian Mendes (@ian_mendes) November 16, 2021
