And good old Freddy has given up 3 goals on those 12 shots.

This is the first season since the playoffs against the capitals where I have no confidence of the leafs getting out of the 1st round.

Every other season I felt they should have and was disappointed. But this year I'm not feeling it at all.

No offensive element at all, but maxed out on all the defensive markers.

For a future 6th rd pick (trade with Carolina) this seems like a decent bet as we normally pick this type of project prospect in that range anyway, but this one is expedited to pro-playable.

Sorry that was a typo in my part. Meant to say scouting not scoring.

Quote from: Guilt Trip on April 17, 2024, 09:13:17 PMI think he may get the Lindsay. Players know how hard it is to score goals and that was a season to remember.

I'm confident that will be be MacKinnon. He's scored 50+ but will have close to (or possibly more than) 140 points - if he plays tonight, at least. Matthews will get votes, but, I just can't see him beating MacKinnon, who should also take home the Hart.

To be honest, I don't think Matthews will be in the top 3. I think he'll find himself 4th in voting.

As a fan, I could care less, but I'm sure as a player it's disappointing.

I seem to remember in another thread that his scouting profile is of the opinion that he has no NHL potential.

They'll find a way.

This genuinely made me laugh out loud. It's so true.

The good thing about this season is that I have no expectations of them to get out of the first round so they can't disappoint me.

I keep forgetting Giordano is available and healthy.

Quote from: Joe on April 16, 2024, 07:34:42 PMSo Boston is really tanking so they get the leafs in the 1st round.
They'd rather face Sammy then Vasi I guess. They should have thought of this a week or so ago lol. Leafs can beat either team.

Yeah agreed. I just don't feel like watching games in Boston. There's just something about that arena and crowd that makes me uncomfortable.

Quote from: TheMightyOdin on April 13, 2024, 08:58:52 PMWas that a good call against Domi? I didn't think so.

I respectfully disagree.  He got in hard on the hards.  Sure it was embellished, but that's going to get called.

Domi's stick seemed twisted in there.
Domi's dropping of his stick and expression after seemed like he knew it.

Matt Murray won but gave up 5 goals on 27 shots (3 while Marlies PKing). Stopped all three shootout attempts.
That's a good night for a guy who hasn't played for a year.

I know how ridiculous this is going to sound, but if somehow the leafs get out of the first round it wouldn't shock me if we saw Murray in net at some point.

It was a legit penalty. It was a bonehead move on Domi's part.

Quote from: Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate on April 12, 2024, 10:42:23 PMThanks for that CTB.  Is he worth it?  What I remember when his name popped up is that he is big and good at blocking shots and that's about it.

Who knows. My gut instinct at first was that there almost certainly wasn't anything here. But since then James Mirtle has said a couple of times that he's heard people say there's a good chance he actually plays NHL games at some point next season and presumably those are people who have watched him closely.

To Toronto's credit they've been reasonably successful when it comes to college players in this position. Either in acquiring guys prior to them becoming free agents (like Hyman) or signing them when they do (Moore, Marchmentnot from the college, McMann, Steeves-ish, possibly Rifai). So maybe he can end up being something, even if the upside would likely be quite limited.

That's of course the optimistic take. The pessimistic one would reasonably point out his zero goals and 15 assists through 4 years of college hockey make it incredibly difficult to see a NHL future and any talk about him is more simply because he's 6'7" tall.

I appreciate the response.  You can't teach size.  (You can teach cliches, however, as I've just demonstrated.)

So Cory Cross with less talent?

"Throws one towards the net" is a bit of a stretch.
