Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Muzzin and Brodie

Quote from: Frank E on November 14, 2022, 11:10:27 AMOof.  Now Brodie out too.

I guess we'll have to see how injured Brodie is, but they may be forced to make a move or 2 here.

I suspect any teams with extra serviceable D are wringing their hands waiting for a Leafs call.

Non-Hockey Chatter / Re: Coronavirus

Quote from: louisstamos on July 20, 2022, 08:27:54 AMI got my 4th shot yesterday - all 4 Pfizer.  I actually feel pretty good (I had some pretty bad fatigue after number 2, but other than that, they all went smoothly), but my arm hurts more with this one than any of the first 3.  I can barely lift it.  My understanding thought is that might have to do more with either the nurse or a dull needle than the vaccine itself.

I've had all four, as well.  I think all Pfizer. The fourth was two weeks ago. I've not had any issues with any of the shots with pain or soreness.

I had a regular flu shot Last Thursday and it burned like hell for 10 minutes and my arm is still sore 4 days later. Go figure!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Muzzin and Brodie
November 14, 2022, 11:05:31 AM
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that defenceman Jake Muzzin is out indefinitely due to a cervical spine injury. Muzzin's status will be re-evaluated in late February. Muzzin skated in four games with the Maple Leafs this season and recorded one assist.

The Maple Leafs also announced today that defenceman TJ Brodie has been placed on injured reserve with an oblique injury while the club has recalled forward Pontus Holmberg and defenceman Mac Hollowell from the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

We'll see what Kallgren brings tonight.  He is third or fourth in the depth chart or was as the season started...

I kinda expect an iffy goal each game from him. He's performed great, but my expectations are still not all THAT high. His save percentage shows he's been able to bring his A game, and last game was a pretty impressive start.

Fingers crossed for tonight!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / ESPN vs SN/TSN
November 07, 2022, 10:21:45 AM
I watched yesterday's 'Canes game on ESPN. Despite inferior commentators, it was so refreshing not to watch a sports betting program show embedded with a hockey game.

I didn't notice any betting ads/takeovers during the ESPN broadcast of the game.  I forgot just how good we used to have it...

Quote from: Bender on November 06, 2022, 05:22:53 PMThe sieve lets one in.

A .884 sv% for a backup to the backup? Not really what I'd call a sieve. I can live with that.

I know it is what it is. You still don't win many games with that kind of goaltending... or with the type of shot he let in. Luckily he's done the job thus far.

I still don't get the sieve comment at all. He's done exactly what has been expected of him.  Or better than expected.

It's kind of like the time I called Sundin a Swedish Meatball and you didn't get the comment and challenged me?  You were right then and you are again correct now.  I mean I made my comment in... 1997 I think.  I can't remember if that was on the Penalty Box site or before that...

I've been a meatball on many occasions - and still am :)

Quote from: Jeremiad on November 05, 2022, 07:31:10 PMI hate Brad Marchand too. He has earned my enmity.

I hate the guy. But if he signed with the Leafs tomorrow I'd welcome him with open arms. The guy comes to play every each and every game and has a great winning resume.

Yeah, I thought the penalty shot was the right call, sadly. That's exactly what the penalty shot rule was meant for.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Matthews/ Konecny

I have to ask... Who the hell is Mike Rupp?  Everyone knows who Auston Matthews is. But a washed-up never-was commenting on a bonafide star?  The irony.
