Former Leafs: Ex-Files / Matt Frattin
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:51:20 AM »
I'm keeping a close eye on Frattin this year. I know most people around here think we won the Bernier trade, but I still have a few doubts. In L.A.'s warm up game last night Matt added three points to the scoresheet, and I still think he'll have a breakout season this year. I just hope Bernier does too, as I was very skeptical about trading Frattin. Anyone care to ease my mind?

Is there room on the Leafs roster this season for Morgan, if he really surprises at the main camp next week? I suppose with Franson unsigned, there would be a spot, at least temporarily. He played a solid game one at the rookie tournament. I'd like to see him step it up even more tonight and tomorrow night in London.

My guess is they keep him for the try out period, and send him back to Moosejaw just before they burn the 1st year of his contract. I'm thinking that would also buy the Leafs some time to convince Franson to take a bridge contract. But what if he outplays most of the current D at camp? Tough call for management on this.!/article/52290686ec06915397529f2c

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / And in summation......
« on: May 14, 2013, 08:42:46 AM »
If the dramatic game seven loss does anything for the Leafs, it will surely burn a memory into their minds that will drive this team to redemption next season.

All is not lost, as nobody thought this team was good enough to even compete with the likes of the Bruins, let alone take them to seven, and nearly pull off a miracle win.

It was a horrible, horrible way to go down, one that a more experienced team could have avoided, but one that can and will be used as a catalyst for this team as it grows and matures. Hard to reset the memory button on last night, but pride will start to set in in a day or two, and the focus will shift to what they accomplished this seaon and not about the game seven collapse.

I for one was, and still am, excited about the future of this team, and think they will bring us success down the not too distant road. This is not a veteran team that has one or two more shots at the big prize. This is a young promising team that overachieved this post season, and learned a thing or two about about what it takes to play this game when the chips are down.

We all need to look past this defeat and get behind this team for next season, when much more will be expected!

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Leaf playoff news...
« on: May 03, 2013, 12:27:07 PM »
We seem to be lacking a general news thread for the Leafs during their playoff run. So here it is....

Goalie Drew MacIntyre has joined the #Leafs at practice on Friday as an emergency recall #TMLtalk

As Busta mentioned in the Marlies thread, it appears it is just for todays practice as Scrivens attends a funeral.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

I thought it may be time to dig up this old relic of a thread.

It may be put to good use once again this season...

Alright. Here we go.

Who starts in net on Saturday night???

I'm leaning toward Scrivens getting the nod, then maybe Riemer on Monday.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Are we ALL ready for some Leafs hockey?
« on: January 03, 2013, 03:03:28 PM »
When this season begins I'm wondering what kind of shape this Leafs team will be in. Of course, an advantage must be given to the guys who have either played overseas, or in the CHL or AHL. Will the Leafs be ready? Improved? Will a shortened season be a benefit or a handicap? So many questions....

Our favorite ex-Leaf writer offers his opinions below... What does everyone else think?

Leafs Media Rumours / Leafs Defence- Depth Chart

Burke said today that a championship team always starts at the blueline. That may explain his inclination to procure such an impressive collection of them.

I wanted to start this thread before the draft, but after seeing the top 2 selections for the Leafs this week-end, I had to post it now...

The ā€˜Dā€™ really is deep now, even without Schenn. One of the deepest in memory.

It would be fantastic to see Justin Schultz slide into that spot Schenn has just vacated... (one can hope)

« on: June 21, 2012, 05:00:38 PM »
Staal won't sign extension with PIT... getting interesting on that front. Could the Leafs offer more? Or does he have his sites on Carolina?

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Breaking news: Hearing Jordan Staal turned down 10-yr mega offer from PIT. Has indicated to PIT he doesn't plan on signing extension now.

Let Jordan Staal trade rumors begin...full details on SC at 6 pm ET, on Insider Trader segment.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
If Staal won't re-up in PIT, where he loves it, not expected to extend with anyone else who may trade for him. Except perhaps Carolina.
