General Rumours & Speculation / Re: My honest opinion for 2021-22
« on: June 17, 2021, 07:40:06 PM »
I think the Leafs made a reasonable gamble and assumption that the Cap would continue to increase even if only a few M per year and then adding in the new US TV deal would bump it up ?? Say 5M at least….this makes the Big 4 deals a lot more maneuverable.

Why they didn’t anticipate a worldwide pandemic is beyond me.

Just the Leaf fans luck that occurs at this time.

Keefe et al need to be held highly accountable.

If the Leafs had an average powerplay the series was over in the Leafs favour.

Even if Malhotra is turfed, Keefe needs his knuckles rapped very hard. He could have demanded changes
but they just did not adapt - let alone adjust to what the Habs game plan was.

At least they brought in 500 front line workers to confirm the Leafs are dead.

I stole this FYI.

I’m not that clever.

Guess I didn’t know what I was talking about but even with the injuries they should have put this series away. If they don’t make some major changes with this core I don’t know what to say. Fukn losers. Thank god I stopped watching early in the series.

But what exactly do you want them to do?  Which one do you want them to trade, and how?

Assuming they lose...the only core piece who should be considered would be Marner, but it would have to be a really good deal. I think maybe you give this group one more year, tweaking around the edges. Replace slow/unproductive players like Thornton and Simmonds with younger, quicker ones. Bring back Spezza, maybe Galchenyuk. Re-sign Hyman only if it is a deal that fits in, we can't mortgage the future to keep him. He's not going to age well and appears to already have lost a step. And hope like heck a couple of younger players (Robertson maybe) are ready to step in and play a regular role.

Thoughtful reply and I agree with so much of what you say but i’ll throw it out there....in trading a superstar (current anger aside) when has the team trading the superstar ever came out ahead? Can’t think of one but people here will likely come up with some examples

Bruins traded Thorton, and then 4 short years later, they won the cup.

IIRC, none of the players acquired were any kind of difference makers?

Im saying Marner will be involved no matter what

One cannot deny ones nature
How fitting of you to say that.

Just ride the bandwagon man. It's great over here. I used to get upset like you did, but then I realized that just not giving a crap is the best option. The Leafs are a perennial disappointment and always will be. The sooner you realize that the better off you will be.

Fatalistic, much?

Realist if you’ve cheered for this team for 50+ years.

If the Leafs had even an average PP this series would be long over. It’s disgusting 🤮

9
This ducking team just makes me sick.

10
This is a pathetic excuse for a “Cup” caliber hockey team.

11
Leafs seem so willing to adjust roster/lines etc but nope don’t bump Willy to PP1...at least try something because they are pathetic

You want to know why it sucks to be a Leaf fan...because of crap like this.  This team is always on the receiving end of these things.  The Habs have done this before.  Against Boston, that series where Kovalev ran into his own player and hurt his hand.  They came back from 3-1 and won that series.  This doesn't happen for the Leafs.  Their the team that blows the 3-1 series lead or the 4-1 lead with 10 minutes left in 7 games.  The missed high stick call in game 6 in overtime.

At what point does this team succeed?  They've done everything by the book, and they can't beat a team that they had 11 more wins than.

If the score had been the other way around, you know the Leafs would have still lost rather than being the ones that scored in overtime.  This team has not won a playoff round since before my kids were born.  I have a kid that is learning how to drive now.  I just don't get how that much bad luck can fall on one team for so long.  Why can't this team be a Chicago, or be a Pittsburgh, or hell, just be a Washington one year.  Just boggles my mind.

I resemble this excellent post.

Just give it to Willy.

14
If Marner can get his &$#$ together maybe he’ll score the gwg....?

15
This really shouldn't surprise anyone.
What makes you say that?

It's the Leafs
Sorry but this makes no sense.

Yes it does. The greater the confidence and anticipation the more they crap
the bed....
