The lowly Detroit Tigers (58-80) play the not-as-lowly-but-still-lowly Toronto Blue Jays (64-76) in a three game series here at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

While this these two teams continue playing out their respective seasons mostly to salvage some pride, it is the Blue Jays with the slight better overall record.

The Jays have not taken a series since the middle of August and have been 19 for 34 during that timespan to now.  They sport the A.L.'s worst batting average and second-worse slugging percentage.  Still, despite all of that, they carry a better w/l record than the Tigers do.

The Blue Jays have been slugging out the homers -- nine in four games -- and have employed the services of their expanded roster call-ups, and the youngsters have shown some of gumption in many areas.  There is nothing more exciting than for an up and comer to get the call to join the parent club & play in the major leagues.

From here on in, fans should not expect the Jays to hope for the WC as that is all but a foregone conclusion.  Everyone should enjoy, sit back, and cheer on the team.

Captain Canuck:
Tigers take the first game 5-4.
Urena hit his first MLB homerun and made some nice plays in the field again. He could be the answer at shortstop should the injury bug continue to plague Tulo. Ideally he is the starting shortstop in Buffalo next year and the Jays call him up if needed, really want this kid getting regular playing time instead of riding the bench.

Tigers 4  Blue Jays 5

Kevin Pillar hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the Jays the tie-breaking win.  Add to that his four hits,  plus Jays starter Brett Anderson whi earned his first win as a Jay, in going six innings in allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five in the process.  Relievers were Ramirez, Leone, & Tepera with the save despite allowing Detroit the two extra runs.

Not bad in a day's work.
